Or, if he were me, a new cable AND a new bike!!! Preferably something old, with parts you have to scrounge for on Ebay.

It's the old problem. If you don't use it, it seizes up. If you do use it it wears out. you can't win. you can barely break even.

I would rather watch golf, on tv, than watch college football at all.

But I don't watch tv anymore. I do enjoy the NBA play-offs, and some bike racing, on the computer. I usually find a way to watch the Superbowl, but I didn't for this past one. I enjoy watching women's sports too. Soccer, basketball, cycling.
And who can forget tennis?!

My wife has some sort of affinity for a 40 mile ride that we've done 4-5 times a year for the last 30 years or so. There is absolutely little to recommend it other than a greasy spoon halfway for respite and a few interesting wooded stream areas but most of the route is typical Illinois scenery - corn, beans, wheat and occasionally pumpkins.
So when the little woman announced her intent last night, I had to oblige and load the cars for her "special" route.
The weather was great, wind was light, clouds were fluffy white and the greasy spoon was classically good. What a great day. Wish they could all be like this.

my buddy broke another spoke. today. This has to be the 12th time if not more. Last time, he was suppose to do a century with me (last monday). We were rolling on the cap trail and snap! front spoke snapped. He didnt continue the ride and once he got home determined all the spokes were over torqued. Readjusted and today he broke another one 2 miles in on a ride.
I told him to trash the wheels, but he is determined to find out why this is happening.

What wheels? How heavy is he? I've never met anyone who has broken more spokes and trashed more wheels than I have.
In my experience once a wheel starts breaking spokes it's time to relace the wheel. The key is to find a wheel builder who knows what he is doing and takes the time to tension the spokes evenly.

They are Dt swiss wheels. Came from a bike in a crash, but the wheels were not damaged or there is no apparent damage. LBS head mechanic relaced them before my friend started riding them. He bought these wheels becuase his other wheels kept breaking spokes too. He’s roughly 210 ish, the other weird thing is it’s not just one wheel breaking spokes it’s both wheels at different times.(front and rear) He took it to the mechanic the first couple of times, but since they kept breaking he started working on it himself.

I tried building them myself but I hate doing it and I still broke spokes on wheels I built.

Yeah. Probably should relace the wheel.
