I just hope this thread doesn't turn into anti-motorist propaganda as she is a tiny minority. There are aholes in every form of transportation.

I think you would think different if it were you laying there and all she can say is my poor car and I don't care.

Can the mods give us special license to let loose on language, just for this thread?

Every time I think I've seen the dumbest of the dumb, people like her prove I'm wrong.

I'm curious about the range of possible sentences for what she actually plead to. Given that the judge had her statement a an indicator of her attitude, I'd have hope he said he didn't care either and gave her the max.

.......was fined $4,500 and lost her license for nine months.

Hardy scot-free, but I would have hoped for something more. But I am not sure what.

I think the general public, the law-makers, and the courts accept that accidents are normal. I think... they also expect pedestrians and cyclists to accept the higher risks they face. I can live with that I guess. But I am not sure about how I feel about the newish added danger of text/search phone distraction.

However one might feel in the situation, it is entirely correct that there are aholes in every form of transportation. This one does not represent motorists as a group. The cyclist who killed an innocent pedestrian in San Francisco while trying to set a Strava time and who considered the innocent pedestrian as basically a nuisance does not represent cyclists in general.

Certainly I would hate her. Hating on every motorist because of her? That would just make me another ahole.

Then you can justify that a cyclist might once have caused her to swerve and hit a tree while he cycled away scot-free, hence her 'I just don't care'.

Maybe it would be fair if she had to spend 10 times the time the cyclist has to wear his spinal cage in jail.

Please do provide the quote of the cyclist calling pedestrians a nuisance. That cyclist was wrong, and the ped contributed by entering the intersection early, plus the cyclist stated his hope the ped recovered quickly; makes that cyclist case a far cry from this driver.

His comments were on a cycling group's forum, not Facebook, and what he said about the pedestrian was "I really hope he ends up OK."

Apparently the judge has tacked on 9 months more time without a license... Of course not the same as the life long sentence the cyclist will have with spine problems...

Duh

How DUMB do you have to be to say-admit- to something like that??
It borders on unbelievable -we are sure it happened-
sure she ACTUALLY said something soooo against her own interests?
Normally when people do "something bad"
they LIE about it-and pretend to give a shoot about the injured person??
Are we sure she is THAT DUMB??
Is she a BLOND??
Just curious?

A few years ago there was the case of the ER doctor in Los Angeles who was convicted largely on the basis of his own statements both to police on the scene and in his initial call to 911.

It was a rhetorical question, letting people know what I felt, and using their own imaginations about the words I might have used.
