Tx!

The 5.0 is the tow car for the enclosed trailer that hauls the drag bike, but haven't been racing for awhile. It has a blown headgasket after about 300k and needs to get a new motor so it can be raced again too. Been too busy with this C+V thing and healing broken bones to get to it, we'll see.

Nah, original motors are bulletproof, this one hauled the trailer to and from the track twice a week usually on a manic dead run. Early on we towed down, unhooked the trailer, wife raced the 5.0 and me on the bike, good times.

It'll get a decent rebuild and live forever.

So at 30, it fits right in, really should get it back in the game.

I forgot that this was an Alpina. Got it for free as a basket case. If I didn't already have my Team, I might have kept it. Deore LX is nice stuff and that shock still worked as intended.

1982 was Univega's first year for MTBs, I had a 1982 Alpina Uno frameset only.

The early 1980s MTBs were the bomb!

I have that same bike - bought it new from a Univega distributor in 1983 or 1984.I still use it for a town/errand bike and occasionally to play in the mud or snow. Built like a tank (and rides a little like one), but it served me well when I was tearing up the trails and fire roads in Middle Tennessee in the mid 1980s. Great bike. Yours is prettier than mine.

I bought this in '94. I think the only original parts left on it are the crankset, front and rear derailleurs, and the seat post. Kinda sad, but at the time it was just a tool.

I may have the original fork around here somewhere, but everything else went away.

I figured I should update this thread since I started it. Here is my overhauled Alpina Comp, mostly original except for the Albatross handlebars.

Welcome! You can post photos after 10 posts. A good way to get your 10 posts is to start a thread in the Introductions sub-forum and reply as needed.

Thanks! I knew about the 10 post requirement, but am not sure about starting a thread to get there sooner. I just wanted to setup some anticipation of the photo of this mind-blowingly pristine Alpina 5.9 I just picked up off the old Kijijji.

Oh look, now I'm at 2 posts lol

Since it’s already packed, you might as well ship it to me for safe-keeping, you know, just in case. I may even assemble it for you and test ride it for a few thousand km, just to be sure it’s functional.

That is very thoughtful of you to offer! However, it will have to be my cross to bear. It’s been in the family for almost 40 years so it’s probably doomed to my own brand of punishment.

This is a 15 speed with solid rear axle and QR front. Suntour hubs and shifting. I gotta get this one built for my wife to see if she likes it. If she doesn't like the way it looks (artist of the family) I'll probably sell it. Way too small for me.
But if you want to see what was on it new here it is.
