Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

2021 Giant TCX Advanced more gravel than their gravel?

It gets 30.9mm dropper compatible seatpost size and 700x45mm clearance. This makes the thing more gravel than the Revolt which is their gravel so what gives? When I looked at the Revolt it only took that D shaped seatpost and there really wasn't a way to route an internal dropper anyway.

The 2021 TCX is more gravel than the 2020 Revolt, but the 2021 Revolt might be even more gravel.

Yeah what's funny is that CX bikes are basically just becoming the goto bikes for pure gravel racing and the gravel bike is like the leisure whatever bike.

1x only for the TCX, and Revolt has longer trail and wheelbase. But they do seem to be pretty close to each other.

Kinda makes sense, as "gravel" is getting more "progressive" meaning longer/lower/slacker - but if you want a fast attack bike that isn't necessarily what you want. Lately, CX bikes have been stealing a lot from Gravel (large tire clearance, compliant ride, longer front center) without compromising any on their agility.

Besides, they call large tire clearance "mud clearance". ;-)

A longer/lower/slacker bike does not mean slow. In fact it's the opposite as it offers more control and stability when stuff gets gnarly. A pure racing gravel bike should be in the middle ground like a modern cross country race bike. That way when the stuff get's gnarly you don't slow down because of the loss in control. CX bikes are still stuck in the old days of XC when you had 100mm XC rigs with 100mm stems. The modern XC race bike is now right in between those and your trail/enduro bike with a little longer reach but much shorter stem at 50-60mm.

Spoiler: The TCX always could fit a 45mm tire. Hell you could go 650B x 47 (50 with little/no mud clearance) and the front could fit a 2.1/2.2. Plus the Revolt has similar clearance.

I honestly considered the TCX mainly bc I wanted to run 650B wheels and the 60mm BB drop gave slightly better pedal clearance, but I ended up going with the Revolt as it was slacker, had better standover, and the acceleration was not far behind the TCX (both have 430mm Stays)

My prediction for the Revolt 2021/2: Double dropped stays and clearance for 700c x 50mm/650b x 2.1-2.2. It's a shot in the dark but would be cool to see.

Bikes: Co-Motion Cappuccino Tandem,'88 Bob Jackson Touring, Co-Motion Cascadia Touring, Open U.P., Ritchie Titanium Breakaway, Frances Cycles SmallHaul cargo bike. Those are the permanent ones; others wander in and out of the stable occasionally as well.

Exactly! Cross bikes are really not very comfy for more than a 30 -40 minute ride and some of them are actually adopting gravel characteristics (somewhat); it is not "CX bikes are basically just becoming the goto bikes for pure gravel", it is that many cross bikes are getting more gravely.

Either way, they NEED a GRX version to be a serious contender... (no pun intended!)

Actually, mine is good for 4-5 hours, and that is only because of the low stack. Its crazy comfortable on gravel and washboard. Before this bike, I always used a thudbuster, but I don't have to any more. It seems to me the biggest tangible (riding) difference between a CX bike and a "gravel" bike is the wheelbase. CX bikes need to be able to do very sharp turns (me like!), while gravel bikes are designed for long graceful (stable) turns.

To some degree a lower/slacker BB height and Trail are going to make the bike feel more comfortable, but there are just things you can't effectively do with a short wheelbase and some you can't do with a long wheelbase.
