Taillight: always. Many of the roads I ride on a tree tunnels, and I'm in and out of shadows, so I always have the tail light flashing so they can see me in the shadows. Front headlight, yes when it's dark and a small flasher when it's not quite full daylight.

I was thinking about cyclist and lights the other day. In Phoenix right now the highways have the "look at for motorcycles" on their digital signs.

Than you have Harley guys saying: Loud pipes save lives. Than we go out with no lights in the road and at times at car speed/traffic. All the meanwhile being much smaller and vulnerable.

I ride with a cheap front light and tail light. Strobe tail day and night. Flash front day, solid front for night.
I ride on 55mph "highways" where 75 is normal.

Though some like my dad thinks I'm dumb night riding while I feel it's safer. Less cars and easier to see me. He thinks the drunks will become fixated on the flashing taillight.

When I ride at night i do use my lights. My lights are for me to be seen, not for me to see where I am going since most of the roads I ride are pretty well lit for me to see. As I said, I want others to see me.

I bike commute more often than I drive. If its dark out, which it is typically in winter/early spring I put a Serfas 505 lumen headlight on my bars, a Serfas thunderbolt taillight on my seatpost, and another thunderbolt on a seat stay. I only have a 5.5 to 6.5 mile commute so I run the lights on the highest settings with the taillights in flash mode. They're small, usb chargeable, and so far they seem to make me easy enough for motorists to see.

Aaaaahhhhhhh I have been looking and looking and looking for a great but simple solution to my problem. This did it! Thanks! It's one of those, "Why didn't I think of that?" moments.

It is a type of stem made by Bontrager that incorporates either a computer mount or light mount into the front of the stem so the chosen accessory sits just above the handlebar. It avoids taking up real estate on the handlebars and centers the light/computer.
