Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help me find where the click is coming from

- Two quick click-click sounds
- Happens with each revolution of the crankset
- Sounds like it's coming from the bottom bracket area (but not 100% sure)
- Gets louder when I pedal harder or ride out of the saddle
- Also, it seems to get louder the longer into the ride, say 15 miles in, and I notice it more

The bike is a 2008 Cervelo RS.

Help, please. It's driving me nuts.

Try to isolate it. But the bike on a stand and crank away. Sit on the bike and flex the stem. Take off the rear wheel and spin the cassette. Coast. Etc.

If you're having a hard to isolating the click. Re-tighten everything (make sure to do it to the right torque). Lube chain. Then go from there.

Usually when I have a clicking noise it's usually the bottom bracket.

Clicks always sound like they're coming from the BB, but as often as not, they aren't. It could be anywhere.

i had a regular click from every pedal stroke. I don't know exactly where it was, but i got rid of it by pulling the cranks out and cleaning and putting them back in.

Sometimes it's the crank hitting the front derailleur cable.

Good luck! Tracking these down can be infuriating.

Magnet hitting something? Crank or fork?

Check bolts on stem, bar and seat post.

Lube the QRs.

strip the whole bike down and re-build it after cleaning every little part and allen bolt. shouldn't take too long.

The click is coming from inside this thread! I've had the derailleur cable thing happen to me. Took me longer than it should have to figure it out.

You can also try and unclip one pedal at a time. If the click disappears when one foot isn't pedaling, there's a good chance it's coming from that pedal.

Also pedal standing up, see if it stops then sit on the seat not clipped in fake the pedaling motion see if you still hear it, then alternatley pull on the bars as if you are pedaling but keep your feet still. just to narrow things down.

I actually had exactly what you describe from a chain I used bad lube on. Cleaned it and used different lube, went away.

look at the connection between cleat and pedal. Oil/lubricate lightly. This will all go away.

Also check the excess cable when you are in the small chainring.

Recently went through the same issue. Did every one of the standard ideas. Came down to the crank arm interface. FSA cranks.

had the speed magnet hitting my sensor and it would ring out a little click since it got knocked and was misaligned. Obvious after I found it, but didn't think about it so check that out too.
