Mulholland Mystery

Hello C&Vers. I just got back from going to see a possible Cyclops bike. It was a painted by Mulholland, sadly, but still was a nice bike with great parts. Super Mighty crank, Suntour Superbe front derailleur and shifters. Rear derailleur was probably a replacement as it was Campy Nuovo Record. Any thoughts, based on the photos of lug and BB shell cutouts, as to what the original bicycle was/is? Seller had no idea.

You should see the BB shell photo and the top/headtube lug pic.

I am leaning toward Kuwhara however Mulholland applied Columbus decals to the repaint.

I don't think that's where Kuwahara puts their serial numbers. At least on the ones I've seen they're on the seat tube.

If they painted the seat tube same as it used to be maybe it might have been a Nishiki?

It does match the 2 letter 5 digit Nishiki serial number format. And the cutouts are very Nishiki tulip shape. K for Kawamura? I hate to bother you yet again but T-Mar ... Do you think this Cyclops repaint is a Nishiki? Sorry about the quality of photos. I need a new phone.

I think that the "K" cutout is distinctive, almost familiar, just waiting for someone to recognize it.

I have been doing a deep dive on this one. I found a thread a ways back where T-Mar mentions N and K shape cutouts on bottom of Nishiki BBs. I am leaning toward Nishiki Superbe and more specifically the 1978 model ... but might be way off base.

This bodes well for the Mulholland repaint being a 1978 Nishiki Superbe.
