1985 trek 620 for a friend ..
I have a young guitarist friend who started riding an ancient Windsor international I gave him. It was way too small for me and a gas pipe bike to boot but he's been riding it a lot. Well anyone that actually rides a bike I give them deserves consideration in my book. So I found a trek with no wheels and a stuck seatpost for 12$. Thing is, it had the original factory rack and bottle cage and the seatpost isn't too far in, plus I have some decent wheels. Check it out.

Just from the look of it- the things that needed to be swapped out have been swapped out (wheels and derailleur). The things that should be there are there (crank, shifters, rack, headset) and since you're addressing the seat post- I'd find one that doesn't let water in like the SP-KC.

Great find and kind of you to hook up your friend with a major upgrade! He will appreciate the difference after riding that gas pipe bike. Maybe he could sell it on craigslist and give you the proceeds? Are you going to pay for the tape and other bits you need to set up the Trek? Glad you got the post unstuck. I have an '83 630 and it's a sweet ride - swift and lush.

1985 620, one of the best in the business, if I do say so myself. I've been slowly working out getting mine back together, albeit with different components. Glad he likes the bike and rides it!

It will be really cool if your friend gets into the 1/2 step +granny. Maybe it’s not a city thing but my first experience with that set up was on my 85 620 and I thought it was the coolest.

I use it on my 720. For me in town I stick with one chaining most of the time, the ratios are still closer than a Sturmey Archer AW. On the road touring the half step is awesome. Hard to believe you get 13 distinct ratios from a 5 speed block.
