I put a new tyre on my rear wheel. 38 on the back, 35 on the front, effectively mulletising the bike

I installed what I hope to be a better cell phone holder, a Q Mount. Fortunately, I get spacers on hand 'cause it came with nothing...

Rode the old girl

In the rain (off and on) six miles (did some climbing.) we both got wet and tire-d.

End up doing about four today. An aluminum hybrid with steel forks seems more attractive daily. 😂

My TREK FX7000

Gave my Trek a rebuild after the rainy season and installed a new Deore crankset.

Took it for a ride to dial it in.

Love the bare-metal look with the black accents! It looks like it's up to no good even just sitting there. :-)

I had fenders installed on my Giant Escape. Since I have the new Sirrus 6, I thought I would use my Giant Escape as my rain bike (if it ever rains in Los Angeles again).

Installed a set of Shimano BL-R780 brake levers on my 2005 Cypress. Much better than the OG Tekros. Still waiting on the Deore v brakes to show up.

Rode Pack Mule

For approximately 30 minutes; did some climbing. Was fun. Glad the old bike is still in good working condition. Steel is real, kids.

Deore v brakes showed up. Installed on my Cypress. Massively improved over the ancient Tekros that came with the bike. Hopefully don't overslept so I can go for my ride tomorrow.

New shifters showed up. Just Altus 3x8 trigger shifters. Put those on while I wait for the new rear wheel.

I replaced the disc brake pads on my 2020 Sirrus 3.0. I was nervous about the task since I'd never done it before, but it was easier than I could have imagined!

In getting ready to head to Jekyll Island for the week I found that Mrs. Downesatter's LiteSpeed Cheerohala City bike had a flat front tire. Didn't have a lot of time to find out what was the cause other than maybe the storage in the garage the past month in FL caused it to pop Anyway changed out the tube in like 10 minutes using the Tyre_Glider. Best invention for an old guy like me with weak hands. Check them out... not the hands... https://tyreglider.co.uk

New Rear wheel mavic with deore hub went on today. Put on a shimano 8 speed cassette. My old Cypress is coming along slowly but surely. Stem developed some play I can't tighten out so stem is next.

I put new Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires on my Sirrus 3.0. They're some tough tires to stretch over the wheels! YouTube videos helped a lot and made it much easier. I went with 35mm tires in place of the stock 32mm Specialized Road Sports. I had wanted 38mm but there were none is stock that I could find, but the 35's look good on the bike. Can't wait to try them out later!

Today: Swapped the longish 170mm factory FSA crankset on my larger 7.6 out for a much more suitable 165mm Sinz that I picked up used:

Earlier: Did the same for my smaller 7.6, only with a new, 165mm Shimano Tiagra crankset and BBR60 bottom bracket:

The smaller 7.6 also got treated to a nice (albeit heavy AF) OHM adjustable stem for more suitable geometry and better handling:

(Still fine tuning the position as I ride; this isn't yet the final position.)

I replaced the rear tyre on my Canyon RoadLite 9LTD. I have been running schwalbe G-One Speeds and love them. This one was down to the casing after a little over 4K miles on it. I generally hate replacing tyres or tubes as at my age I have little strength in my hands. But with a tyre-glider it made the job easy and in less than 10 minutes.

I finally got around to replacing the stem. The original was too long and too upright. I've only done a couple of rides of 20min each but the difference is very noticeable. I should've done it long ago. Also, changed the saddle (https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...ng-road-saddle).

Smile LEDs on my Verve2

I am still a newbie so I can't post photos yet. I added a string of LED lights around the frame of my 2017 Trek Verve 2. I enjoy night rides in the Boston area. My last ride was the Midnight Marathon Ride. It follows the Boston Marathon route at midnight on the eve of the running of the Boston Marathon. This year had over 1200 riders. I have done it 5 times since 2015.

- Rearranged them:

- In my long-winded, slow-burning quest to de-Tektro my entire fleet (don't ask,) I've replaced the perfectly good - but somewhat petrified - factory Tektro brake pads on both of my 2014 7.6 FXs; the 15" got a set of new Avid RW2 pad holders with new inserts that came with some V-brakes that I had bought earlier; the 17.5" got a set of Kool Stop Supra 2 that I had ordered off Amazon and intended to run on my Dahon Mu, only to find out that they didn't really match the tighter curvature of the 20" wheels.

The next step is to replace those factory Tektro brake arms - which seem to have developed a lot of play over the years - with something, well, not Tektro. The possibilities include everything from Promax P1 minis to NOS Shimano minis, or even some Litepro minis off of Aliexpress. I've been using Litepros on the Mu for a while now and they've been excellent.

- Swapped the 17.5" 7.6FX's still-fresh-looking factory 25mm Bontrager AW1 tires from 2014 (again) for newer - and somewhat dry rotted - 28mm Vee Road Runner slicks that are slightly comfier and a little less grippy.

- Traced a rubbing noise in the 17.5" 7.6 down to the front derailleur sitting too close to the big chainring.

... Only for both tires to to go flat within hours! I opened them up and found that both XLC tubes had just tore up around the valve stem. A third tube did the same thing within minutes of having put it in. I've placed a one-star review with a DO NOT BUY! warning on Amazon, awaiting a response from Amazon UK. I've used a pair of old-new Vee tubes that I didn't even realize I had lying around and they're holding up just fine so far.

I’ve upgraded my long-suffering 2002 Giant Cypress DX so many times, I may start calling her Nebula! She’s blue, so that works, too. At this point the only original bits are the frame (but not the fork), the brake calipers and levers, the seatpost, and the wheels.

The only functional thing I wanted to change this time was the handlebar. The original 24” one was a little narrow for me. A 28” one came available because I decided not to use it on another project. The larger clamp diameter necessitated bringing the new stem along with it.

I also had enough silver braided cable housing from another project to replace the black housings I had been running here. I pulled the PDW Soda Pop front fender off another bike because I was expecting (and got) rain on a planned ride. I had a front rack available so I put it on while I was at it. I had to make some adapters for it because this fork didn’t have eyelets for mounting a rack.

The only thing I bought specifically for this upgrade was a set of RockBros flat pedals.
