What would you consider this bike?
This started out as a 90's Univega mountain bike. Drop bars off a Surly Steamroller Origin 8 brake levers bar end shifters and Serfus 26 x 2 Semi slicks . I don't ride serious off road. Like this it rides better on paved trails but can handle gravel grass and hard packed trails. Mainly it's me with extra parts and time. If I do ride in the dirt I have a Bikesdirect 29 plus

From the look of it, I'd consider it fun. Wouldn't mind owning one just like it one bit.

The steel bikes from the mid-80's were very versatile. I had one of the earliest (I think) Univega Alpina "mountain bikes" circa 1985. It had a Sugino double crank (48 & 38 maybe?), Cyclone derailleurs and Arraya rims AIR. Wish I still had it, but a 90's Diamondback Axis takes its place.

I actually considered nitto Bosco bars on it , but I had the Surly drop bars and Origin 8 brake levers on hand.

Those are classified as gravel. For me is the right category, definitely a bike that has character and pleasure to ride

Here's my bike for similar riding. Has Schwalbe Land Cruisers. Rolls well on tarmac, stable on gravel and dirt roads. I am old and don't do serious mountain biking. This one works on trails an two-tracks.

This bike will soon have Nitto Bosco bars on it. I prefer upright bars to drops . I had the Surly drop bars on hand when I put it together. I have more than I could get out of it invested so I might as well make it what I want
