Just another reason I gave up on road cycling in my city (New Orleans, LA USA). It's a free-for-all down here.

I would not recommend looking at the video footage if any is available on this page unless you WANT to see a group of cyclists hit from behind at 80 mph.

DWI enforcement plummets in New Orleans despite rise in impaired driving deaths

The referenced statistic is telling. Unfortunately you need a subscription to read the article.

I don't have a subscription. FYI. Perhaps locals get free access.

I don't have a subscription, but I was able to read it (definitely not a local).

Solution is to move to West Jeff, though I don't think it's a cycling Mecca by any stretch. Or if you love the Parish, down by English Turn

Police have become so emasculated at all levels (Federal, state, and local) in recent years. Their easiest way to reduce soaring crime statistics? announce that certain crimes (shoplifting and petty theft are the two most common) won't be investigated/booked any more.

I can't say about Louisiana, but around here there seems to be much less tolerance for drunk drivers than from years past.

I've never been a drinker myself, but with my social group, most people have a zero alcohol rule to get behind the wheel.

Mom and Dad used to have parties at their house that I wonder if everybody leaving was OK. We've had to pull a couple of people out from the ditch along the driveway.
