Thats awesome. I'm really trying to slow things down in my house if you know what I mean. I'm 45 with two kids 3 and 5.

Haha. I do this on commutes to work, but I had a family for a good reason. I'd like to find outdoor activities for us to all enjoy.

I do, probably, 64 here & kids in the their upper 20s. hang in there. right now I've got 3 cars in my name & trying to get my kids to take over everything on their own cuz now I need a car. mt Son is driving my late Father's car that he bought when he was my age. thinking my next car will be my last. we can try to slow things down & live "in the present" but the future is coming for all of us. yikes that's sounds gruesome, sorry. but they are all good normal issues. we've worked hard, but we're lucky too

my kids always seemed to need the next size up with bikes, so I mostly bought used over the years & it was great when they reached adult bike size & I could stop buying bikes. but then that's when cars started showing up hahaha

I keep watching this post waiting for a success story. I have a wife and 6 and 10 year old; so far with no luck getting them on rides. I just go by myself and it is my alone time as it was before marriage and kids. I really wish I could share that with the family as riding has been a real blessing on many levels in my life but so far no luck.

^^ similar to robo... I'm 58 with a wife and 5 and 7 year olds, none of whom have any interest in cycling. My kids don't have bikes and don't want them. My 5 year old son says, "maybe when I'm ten". haha

I started my son on a wee-ride co-pilot; when he got frustrated with that (anything over 12mph he was just spinning instead of helping to pedal) I go a tandem.
I joined a tandem group on Facebook and put out my request with this nice picture of my boys and set up at the time.
I soon had a couple of people trying to sell me their old tandems; I found a guy who really wanted my family to have his tandem; so I bought it. I got a child stoker kit added to it and last summer my boys and I really enjoyed our bike!

Summer 2023 my youngest will be old enough to go some miles in the trailer. He's a little too young to be in it much this summer.
So this summer both pictures get combined! Tandem, trail-a-bike, trailer set up will be in full swing! 7 year old on tandem, 4 year old on trail-a bike, and two year old in trailer!

If I'm a lucky man, maybe soon I can captain these children's children.

We started camping often when the children were under 10 and took our bicycles. They rode their bicycles when they got older to the ice cream at Pawley's Island and Indian Boundary. I've ridden with their children on trails. The focus was never hill climbing and racing.

sort of the opposite for me / my family

I basically stepped away from bike riding for around 20 years - other than some short off-road rides in the woods behind our house

however - my wife did get out on her bike with the kids - at times with her father also ... they hit some of the rail-trails and nearby park MUP ... most times while I was working on / around the house

later my oldest kid did some rides with friends - including a two day ride on a rail trail (part of the GAP) with a friend and his father

later my youngest kid would do some off road rides with friends - and some BMX riding including indoor faculty and a local park pump track

but I never did ride with them
