I'm not an engineer, but it seems to me that they could weld a bike path to the side of the Fire Island Inlet Bridge similar to the one on Marine Parkway Bridge going to Rockaway Beach. They're both about the same length, a mile or so.



I'm guessing it will never, ever happen, but I just thought I'd ask.

Id bet its doable. But will they ?. When they extended the Farrant bike path that comes down along the Wantagh, to the east bath house, they routed thru Lot 5 near the theater, its all on existing pavement. Just needed pain markings and assorted barriers to separate bikes from cars, it cost a million. Imagine what welding a bike path would cost and will DOT put it out as a project ?. Not in my lifetime is my guess.

Saw this on a YT channel, its the Olympic Discovery Trail that has the path installed under a highway bridge. Interesting concept.
