Yuba boda boda
Hi all,
I have an opportunity to purchase an early manual model of a yuba boda boda for a very low price (less than $300).
My concerns are my commutes to stores/work are 4 -5 miles one way; how to lock up that baby; basket/ pannier options; and the fact that I’ve seen only one other cargo bike where I live!!
i don’t need to cart my teenage kids around. I would try to use it to get to the store and to work,.
My question: to buy or not to buy?
Any input/advice is helpful!
thank you!

see quite a few of these around here, about 60/40 E-bike/pasta motor. most are commuters or School Buses for grammar school age...
pretty cool idea - and much more manuverable than the Burly Bugger I used...
if
you have the storage space
have a good use for it, like grocery shopping
safe riding roads - would be true for any cycling...
not living in a desert
$300 for this bike in good condition is an awesome deal...

The first spec that catches my eye is 43 lb. weight. That's a pretty heavy bike even without cargo. If there are any hills in your area, you'll feel it.
If you're interested in hauling quite a bit - says several bags of groceries at a time - then sure, a cargo bike is worth it.
Otherwise, if you only plan on commuting and light shopping, I'd look at a hybrid, fit a rear rack with a couple of pannier bags, and save yourself about 10-15 lb. over that 43 lb. base weight.
In other words, I wouldn't be tempted by the low price, because I'm not sure it's the right bike for your needs.
