Maybe take your dad's bike to whomever works on your Stumpy. They should be able to fix whatever is needed.

Thank for the reply I’m not sure if your being sarcastic or not but if 22 year old at evens cycles know what it is I’d be very surprised as it would be more than nearly 3 times his age

the laborer might have a history passion with bicycles, so it might be premature to discriminate the knowledge with an age.

Rules are fairly consistent for posting pics with what many other forums are that have very high traffic. Maybe you've just never bumped into those rules because you didn't post pics in your first ten posts at those other sites or they aren't high enough volume of traffic to have a SPAM problem.

It's a SPAM thing. For sites back 10 years or so ago that didn't have that policy, they'd get overrun by SPAMbots and were totally useless to us as members until the pic restriction and others restrictions were implemented.

So just get involved in some other conversations here and contribute. Then soon enough you'll have your 10 posts and a day that will let you post images and hyperlinks. Until then you can just upload pics to the Gallery here and let us know they are there. Although the Gallery seems to have a few issues this last few weeks. You can also post them to a site like https://imgur.com and figure out how to obfuscate the URL and type that in the plain text of your message. We'll figure it out to make it work. Usually all you have to do is put a space on either side of the . and maybe delete the https://.

Upload your photos to your photo album here. Tell us when you get that to work, and someone can post the pics for you here.

To answer your question, it is designed to thwart spammers. Unfortunately, the spammers are much more clever than the honest people, so it hurts the wrong folks.

I am not sure if your favorite mechanic knows anything about vintage bikes---and apparently neither do you. Still makes sense to ask him, no?

The rules here are to prevent people from abusing the site---posting links and pictures which are inflammatory, or blatant advertising, or in some way unwanted ion the site.

The idea, apparently, is that if you like bicycles and cannot find enough content here to say something reasonable in a few threads a few times ... well, probably you should go somewhere where trolling and advertising are welcome (which is pretty much nowhere.)

If you are not here to troll or advertise ..... then PARTICIPATE.

For instance, instead of starting a thread about how bad this place is and how unwelcoming we are .... try posting a thread like "My Dad Has a Vintage Bike Which I Need Help Identifying." Then when people ask about it, you reply. "I don't know much about this bike and it has no markings," and then people ask if there is something perhaps stamped under the BB shell, and you ask what a BB shell is, and people tell you, and you check. Then you come back and say, "Yes," or "No," or whatever .... and ten posts, voila~!

Or you can go to the Classic and Vintage section (https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vintage/) and describe the bike. People over there have encyclopedic knowledge of all sorts of old bikes .... there is some guy who was listing off the history of the famous Chinese bike brand Flying Pigeon, one time. You could describe the bike to the best of your ability ("All I know is it is a bicycle, because it has two wheels, and .... it is a green bicycle, because it is green.")

Just start a friendly conversation.

If you first post is basically, "This site sucks!" well .... yeah, not much else to say, eh?

We all went through the same ten-post waiting limit .... and on top of that, there used to be (and might still be) a five-post per day limit --- which stops people from visiting ten threads, typing a single word or even single-letter reply,. and then posting porn links or such.

Sad, but much like the ridiculous rules for boarding airplanes ... sometimes we have to give up a little convenience to stop the scammers.

You know .... you could post one thread about your dad's bike .... and another about his racing career .... and a third about your Stumpjumper (or whatever it is) and in not time would be not just a full member with all posting rights, but also a part of the community.

You make your choices.

And maybe use some punctuation in your posts rather than making them 1 run-on sentence. You have to help us out so we can help you. Provide details, get to the point you can post photos. 'My dad's old race bike' isn't going to help anyone here.

Mike1,

I just sent you a PM explaining the 10 posts rule. However Iride01 did a great job also in post #5 above. Same with Maelochs in post #7.

Welcome to Bikes Forum and enjoy yourself as well as learn about bicycles. Take your time and try to do as much of the restoration as you can yourself.

Stan

It is weird that actual unbiased explanations & legitimate answers that don't stroke ego...or posts that aren't particularly interested in making the original poster feel "good" or "fulfilled" are received as hostility.

A big part of Gazelle is being free from fake niceties to arrive in truth & find deeper connection.

Good luck in your search for an internet forum that caters to your personal feelings.

Ok. The OP received several responses that answered both his forum and restoration questions. Time to end.
