Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In 1984 I was a frustrated musician making fiberglass satellite dish antennas, and I was completely mesmerized by all things Apple, Mac, Jobs and Wozniak. My first computer years later was the 2nd edition Macintosh and I wasn't disappointed, but all I really did with it was write and print screeds and letters. Then video production came into my life and the working platform throughout the office was PC because it was far more functional and flexible for our purposes than Mac at the time. Now, both are equally functional and I can float between one or the other.

Been to a college campus lately? The most they'll ever do with those $1000+ Macbooks is update their Facebook status and then fill up the entire 250gb hard drive with photos of themselves in Photo Booth. Believe it or not, an Apple computer is actually somewhat of a status symbol/fashion item for many.

The reason I did buy an iPhone however is because Apple did it right and brought innovation to an otherwise bland market. An actual web browser that is actually usable and an actual audio circuit that didn't sound like ass. At the time, there was nothing on the market that could do those things as well as the iPhone. These days, there are a lot more smartphone competitors in the market that could do these things just as well, and you'll never have to use iTunes' slow and bloated interface. I've got 3-4 months left on my AT&T contract and them I'm going to unlock this phone and sell it at a profit. It's probably going to become some high school kid's fashion accessory.

I'm 52, so no. But considering the fact I'll be shelling out $100K+ for my kid's college soon enough, I anticipate a few college campus tours soon.

Wait until you ride your Scott a bit. I'm sure most people would say that a Parlee is no Scott too. But, to me, my Scott R3 is a much better ride than my Z4.

And the Ultegra sounds like a good call. I put my old DA 7800 on the Scott and I love it. I know '09 Force is not Red or '10 Force for that matter, but I don't care for it, other than ergo of the hoods.

It was almost 40 here in central NJ on Thursday and I took the Scott out. It's like cheating compared to my regular winter ride (Trek 2300). Not cracking 18F today, but tomorrow is supposed to be 30+. Enjoy your Scott - when the glaciers recede.

If you don't buy them a Mac, you'll make them social outcasts and the cool kids won't hang out with them.

The Ultegra 6700 stuff is really impressive in person. Maybe it will help Shimano recoup some of the revenue from Dura Ace sales it lost to Red on the higher end bikes.

I'm sure the Super Six is a great bicycle, I don't like the graphics. Oh well.

I'm selling my Six13 in pieces on eBay, still in many respects the best bike I ever had. But time to move on. I'll probably own another Cannondale in a few years. You know how it goes. And perhaps I will even drink the Red Kool Aid.

Is it because it's only Ultegra? I mean, if it can get this thread to 500 posts I could upgrade to Di2.

First upgrade to Di2, or state it will happen soon, without saying exactly when, then we'll think about posting here.

I like the 6700 stuff. Mostly I like the 6700 stuff because it dropped the price of lightly used 6600 stuff so low my new Ghetto Velo build is so cheap I have set new standards in the world of "cheap".

It's the only gauntlet I can throw down on waterrockets, so I had to go big.
