Flower Box

My wife and I needed to spruce up the flower pots on the front porch, so we pedaled to the local nursery last Saturday.

This is my do-it-all Ironman. Hauled a 50lb bag of cement on top of the bars last week. Grocery bags I just dangle off the end of the bars while I try to stop them swinging into the spokes.

I've been spamming this all over the forums, but it's evolved. Mounted 35mm Paselas, added a Wald 137, got an Acorn Basket Bag, wrapping the tubes for protection when locking and now I'm slowly adding lights - put a Spanninga Pixeo on the rear fender the other day. Four bags on board.

Gorgeous! A shame to have to cover some of the paint and decals, but I understand why -- bike racks are dangerous places.
I spy a "seat sandwich" for putting a 4-wire saddle into a 2-wire seatpost. I forget who made those, Joe Breeze maybe?

Thanks for the excellent photo.

Thanks, Mark! The decals aren't original but the paint is and it's a bit fragile. The covers provide a bit of camouflage since this is my commuter as well. I have a VO wrap coming for the top tube and I'll move the tape to the down tube so all 3 are covered. You're right, the seat sandwich is a Joe Breeze gadget. I love that saddle, had it on my Sports which this replaces. I've had it in mind to do a build like this for a while, and I'm really tickled with it.

I most certainly did, Tom, with your help during a repack of rear hub and pedal bearings.

What tires and black basket is that? Very cool.

Har. Assuming you're not being sarcastic, one is a cheap Walmart tire, one was on the bike when I got it. I made good on my post and finally cleaned up the Mirada last spring, got a second Wald basket to replace the missing one and put on some Vittoria AdventureTech tires. Man, what a difference real tires makes...

In the past, I had a rack on a mountain bike with some old Cannondale panniers.

Since building this last winter, it gets the most grocery miles of my bikes.

I use my Drop-bar MIELE MTB or my MIELE UNO LS (adapted to a touring bike) for getting groceries and other stuff.

Drop-bar MIELE MTB with 10 eighty liters totes.

Converted MIELE UNO LS to touring after I used it to bring home a dehumidifier.

I put the four panniers on that MIELE UNO LS when I want to do a big grocery shopping trip.

No, not at all. It looks great. It's simple and to the point. Paint-matched bars maybe tie it together. Actually, I think the mix-n-match tires looked a little better. Maybe it was the one tan sidewall.

Thank you for an excellent thread & beautiful bikes.
This is the current grocery/ commuter/ tourer/ trail bike: a 2001 Koga Miyata Terraliner {that had been neglected & needed work and replacement components). Parallel 71-degree steel frame: by this time Miyata sourced/ produced these tig-welded frames in Taiwan.
It's certainly lacking the elegance of the earlier lugged Japanese-made KM bikes - the top and down tubes seem out of proportion compared to the seat tube and spindly seat stays - yet the bike rides well, with the relaxed geometry producing no toe overlap, even with fenders.
Clearances for 42mm tires, dynamo lighting, wide-range 3 x 8 gearing make a versatile bike, and it carries a lot of weight without any trouble.
