Madone 5.9
Ok, here it is, all adjusted to fit me. I need to cut off some steerer tube still.
For those who didn't wander into the other thread, it's a 2005 Madone 5.9 Project One. Full Dura-Ace group. with paint to match a local team (Team Six) from last season. I bought it off the Cat 1/pro MTB racer who's raced it for the last 2.5 years. Their team all got 6.9s this year, so he's unloading this one. I'll have to keep an eye out for when he's done with his 6.9
$1600, and I'm selling the race-only Bontrager Race X Lite Aero wheels that came with it.
The bike weighs 3 lbs less than my Ritchey. ~16.5 lbs as it sits with pedals. Yes, I already went and priced H2 front hubs and KinLin XR-300s... leave me alone.

Very nice. You are going to have them quaking when you roll up to the line with it. Remember to keep it under 88mph.
Oh yeah - When can we see it set up with the forward seat post and clip on aerobars?

Not that I can tell. Hill repeats at lunch today might show some improvement.

Dude...that's not even CLOSE to burnt orange!
It's pretty distinctive though. I figured anytime I saw a Ritchey on the road I'd just yell "Waterrockets!" and have a chance it was you. This paint scheme should be pretty easy to spot. Where do you ride on Saturdays?

I wish. I just did hill repeats, and I've still got "soccer legs" from playing some hard soccer on Sunday (new muscle employment soreness). Sucks.
This bike is actually more plush than my Ritchey. I'm surprised, but I find myself running over manhole covers and concrete spills just to feel it. Pretty cool.
It tightens up nicely in the corners, and the plush ride means that 50mph washboard sweepers aren't even noticed (I just did some really fast descending at lunch). I'm impressed with the dynamics. There was nothing wrong with the Ritchey, but they really put some effort into the layup on this Madone.
But alas, no more Watts yet. I'll try to do some sprints and WRI™ next week to see how it feels.
No, this feels great, and I think it's almost exactly the same crank relationship. The Ritchey seat tube is 0.5 degrees steeper, I think.

I'm running powertap, I'm not a fan of paired spokes, the paired front would look silly with my powertap wheel, and the pair are nice enough together that I'd rather just pass them along to someone who would get more out of them than me.
The paired spokes can be a can of worms, but my feeling is that they add no value. The wheels are competitively light, aero, either way, cost is similar, but the paired wheels are just a bit tougher to maintain in general.
Probably enjoying the rest. I gave her a nice washing before I pulled the wheels off (first wash since the rainy ATT crit that we won together).

I just rode down to the Veloway this past Saturday. Bee Caves - Mopac - SWPkwy - Wm. Cannon - Escarpment...you know the rest. Back through Barton Creek and up Lost Creek (ugh). You probably ride with my friend Kevin on the ATC ride...old guy on a black kestrel?

Congrats...but, now, as I was believing more and more that it is the engine and I can stick with my '92 RB-1 and be just fine (e.g., after being back in the bike for 10 months, I am placing regularly now thank you and I'm in Breckenridge this week and climbing to the Hoosier Summit Pass just fine -- yes, I start in Breck village), you go and do this...yes, I am an adult and I make my own decisions, but, sheesh WR, you've gone off into left field on me with this one, and you mention the weight of the bike no less...you had nearly convinced me that bike weight is somewhat meaningless...c'mon, you got some splainin to do...ok, ok, I have been planning to buy another bike this Fall if something strikes my fancy...are you available for used bike consultation/hire? You have an incredible deal and an awesome machine. As a major value shopper, I am impressed. Ride it well.

The Madone was just lucky timing (though a couple months early). Also, my selection was targeted with racing in mind (unlike my Ritchey, which I bought for a lively ride in general riding for fun).

Yeah, my other thread title is tongue-in-cheek. I don't feel any performance difference on this bike. It does handle the bumps a little nicer. The rest is just different, but my same training partners are measuring up just as they did on Monday when I was riding the Ritchey. No difference. In the climbs around here, I'm probably looking at 3-5s of difference (on 3-5 minutes).
