My guess is custom built looking at the fork, hubs, and fillet brazed tubes. Edit: Maybe those are welds.

I will post pictures later, but a Fuji S12-2 found its way onto my bike rack this morning, and as I was leaving the seller offered a deal I couldn't refuse on a Specialized Sirrus with a Shimano 105 drivetrain.

Some kind of custom, nice brazing. Trying to figure out the maker but in the meantime I'll go through it. Got a set of bull horns for the rear. Has a cool 1st gen Phil Wood disc brake that actually works pretty well. TA and XT triple group.

The lugged '87-89 Sirrus is an amazing bike. My red '88 rivals or excels any bike from any price range I've ever ridden. They're kinda like 60 cm Gitane TdFs from the Mel Pinto era, there is something indescribably right about them.

Grabbed a 1989 Trek 1200 today. Needs a good clean and tune and has a slight dent in the seat tube, so it might turn into a parts donor. Fairly decent 105 group on it. Couldn't beat the price and it was probably destined for the trash pile.

Getting back to a true "save from the dump", this one followed me home (literally, since it came via the trailer behind my Nishiki) after last weekend's neighborhood garage sale. Left on the curb, and around this time of year, approaching "hippie Christmas", the City is pretty quick to collect items people leave behind moving out. Livery and colorway indicate it's a Bridgestone 400 from 1986 (see https://www.sheldonbrown.com/bridges...stone-400.html ). Minus the wheelset.



I swear there's some secret cabal of agents in this town, operating for years now, putting absolutely dreadful flat/riser bars on otherwise innocent unsuspecting road bikes that did nothing to deserve such treatment.

It did have a saddle, but I removed it for the photo, just to maintain the forum's community standards.


Caught up in the "butted-er than thou" craze of the mid-'80s.


Master U-lock, NOT a "bic pen" cylinder. I was astonished (and a bit un-nerved) at how little it took to get through the shackle with a cutoff wheel on an angle grinder.


Front brake is original, you can JUUUUST make out the "Bridgestone" logo screen, pretty sure it's actually a Dia-Compe. Rear is a black anodized Tektro replacement.


I think there was some discussion in a recent thread about braze-on-mounted Suntour ratcheting shifters. This one's got 'em, and they're quite nice.


Major crud throughout, and no shortage of rust (nothing serious found). But nothing stuck, nothing inop, nothing really worn down. There's the triple option referenced in the catalogue. Gotta go check the parts bin(s),


ARX is original, FD is a replacement Cyclone II from 1981 (shrug). Chain is a replacement (obviously) Hyperglide, near zero wear according to my chain checker. A day's soak in Evaporust, and a couple go-rounds with some Simple Green in my new toy err... essential tool (ultrasonic cleaner), and it's ready again.

Looks like it was re-set for 700s sometime in its life, I put a set of 700s on for a (successful) test ride, and the brakes lined right up. Not sure if I'm gonna run 700s or 27s once I get it all cleaned up.

**Edit** - one thing has me confused. Original catalogue spec is 6-speed friction. But the dropouts are spaced at 130.7mm. Must've been cold set for someone to run 7- or 8-speed, right?

Edit2 - serial number begins with A6, not sure what format / maker that corresponds to, but it appears consistent with it being in the 1986 catalogue.

Hey, would it be possible for you to check the outside diameter of that adjustable-setback seatpost with a set of calipers? A friend of mine is looking for something like that to fit his Miyata 610. I can't remember offhand what post size it accepts.

I checked the SR Sakae, MTE-100 post with a digital caliper, it's 27.0. The original engravings are faint.
Maybe the band clamp was an early attempt at a dropper? Stand on the pedals, reach around to the seatpost binder clamp, loosen till it falls, tighten, try not to run into stuff in the meantime.

It's just what I skimmed from a mish-mash of stuff. I passed on old Raleigh frames, crusty wheels, worn Regina freewheels and Sachs chains, like 42 tubes of Phil grease, empty Proofhide container, stuff like that.
One guy was walking out with most of a Raleigh when I got there. But my wife found a lot of really cool buttons she plans to make into jewelry, so she was happy.

...... I bought a (very dirty and greasy) 1987 Bianchi Sport SX from the local co-op for $25. Couldn't pass it up even though it's only a 19" frame. According to the catalog, it has all original components except the bar wrap, and only missing one pedal and the chain. All Alpha 5000 groupset including Diacompe brakes, Sansin hubs, Suntour 6 sp freewheel, Suntour index/friction shifters, Suntour FD and RD, and Sugino 52 / 42 crankset. Made in Japan with Tange DB frame, Sella Italia saddle, Araya 700c anodized rims, and








what look to be original tires that still are holding air. With this great find, I plan to do a complete rehab; teardown, clean, and lube.

Answered posting on Craigslist showing the Peugeot road frame for sale, with ruddy wheels included with it. Went and viewed it, saw it in nice shape and clean, no chips, hacks or rust. Snapped it up. Researched it and learned it's a sleek model from 1986 brochure. Used Campy Victory crankset, and I never saw its Modolo black brakes before. Seller told of odd size seat post it uses. Hoping to build it to original spec as close as possible. Might Shimano group work better on it, like 105 or Veloce? Thoughts welcomed, thanks.

No small save IMO, if you're looking for those, you can be hard pressed to find a good pair at any given time.

I'd strip them down, get the black off, maybe sand some of the worst scuffing a bit and clean up for a killer build of some sort.
