Takara Competition
Read Mike's "feeling guilty about scrapping out" and wanted to note:
Found a Takara Competition just before the junk man got to it thus the legacy continues!
Really a nice bit of work!
Who said Japan builds Junk!
Intend to race this bike next year in the Senior Class in Rochester, New York.
Kind of reminds me of that bird called the Phoenix that rises from the ashes!

Many years ago a team I raced with was sponsored by a local Takara dealer. As I remember the upper end bikes were not too bad. The Takara Competition, and if I remember right the Takara Professional, were right up there in quality and components with the Raleighs by the same model names.

Thanks for the comments:
The bike is in really good shape - maybe better shape than the rider will be!
I noticed some comments about the end of handle shifters in some other threads - to be honest, I've never used this type before and I've yet to take the bike out for its first test ride.
I'll let you know the results!

I've never seen a Takara Professional. Is it a model above the Takara Competition?

T-Mar maybe yo can help. I just bought a Takara Team frame off eBay. I can't find anything about this models components. Thinking of building it up with a mix SR Four'Sir, Superbe Pro and/or Cyclone II. Any ideas on the spec? The dropouts are SR Pro.

From a thread circa 2005 this is too cool. I rehabbed a pink Takara with @5000 for my daughter that was soooooo sweet in looks and ride but she was out of her pink phase.
