Can't say I do, because I rarely hear anyone refer to diamond frames. It might be a generational thing.

In no way did I admonish him. I quite clearly thanked him for the effort, but clarified that I simply asked what the acronym referred to.

Especially now that the cubic zirconia frames look so real.

No. No it's not. It isn't a slur anymore than referring to a recumbent bike as a 'bent' is.

My last try at the etiquette lesson, then. "Thanks, but..." definitely implies very strongly that someone didn't get it right. "But" is a word of qualification, not just clarification. Plus, he posted a pretty picture.

That's a really weird assertion. I ride DF exclusively, and it's just a convenient and very old fairly accurate descriptive term that differentiates them from other types of frames. How could it be considered a slur?

Now let's debate whether OP's use of the term "racer boys" is racerist.

Kind of like "Thanks, but I already ate" or "Thanks, but I'll be out of town next week" ?

Or, "thanks, but I asked for a size 11". Or "thanks, but you killed my dog." Or "thanks, but I only need two wheels."

Your skills for logical argument are lacking. Giving examples of sentences where 'Thanks, but...' implies that someone didn't get it right does not mean that it always implies someone didn't get it right.

live and tomato please get a room. Quit ruining a fine thread. This thread is for pointing out why trikes are better than DF racing bikes, or for having fun.

Not to pile on, but it's not. It's a descriptive term. "Ass hatchet", now there's a pejorative.*

The other term I use more often outside of recumbent forums is "upright bike" because most people understand that one immediately. "Upright" is close to the perfect antonym of "recumbent" anyway.

* for the record, I find labels like that personally offensive (a little bit, at least) because I spend approximately half of my time on 'bents, and the other half on ass hat... er, I mean...upright bikes!

Strikes me that a turtle might want to weigh in on whether shells make good cowling on bents.

I don't find "ass hatchet" offensive because a) I am not a bike and b) it's hilarious.

There's a graphic that gets posted in C&V sometimes with the many, many kinds of upright frame that are not diamonds. And this figure doesn't even show loop (cruiser) frames.

A really cool creation. Except I think I can walk everywhere that thing can go and at the same speed. Or, kick up my walk to a jog if I was feelin' frisky.

I think the politically correct term for describing an upright "Ass hatchet" is "Wedgie".

The engineers call it a "buttocks cleaving device."

Good point! but, remember that rydabent is all about enjoying the ride... you know, a stop and smell the roses without having to put your foot down kinda guy. So unless he asks for "modern design" (Cecil's words) streamlining advice, this turtle won't pester him with it. But if he did ask, I'd still need a pic of his recreational trike!

Speaking of pics, I think more pics of how people actually use their trikes could be interesting.
