Picked up a 91 Trek 820 for my Nephew did and a bit of a refresh - tires, chain and cassette, and a rebuild of the rear hub. If he likes it I will give it the full tear down this winter but I told him to ride it so he can determine if its a keeper.

As Found

after some TLC

Took the mystery Mrazek for a ride yesterday, and it was really cool. I thought it rode really well.

Had to put the seatpost way up, which was a little concerning considering how cheap it was. I could put a long Thomson on it, and it would actually fit me pretty well, but I think it would look a little bit desperate. Anyways, interesting find, and still trying to figure out when it was made.

As found, estate sale.

Am I wrong or are your tires mounted in the wrong direction? The tread pattern looks reversed.

I was unable to copy the linked images, but the Trek 820 looks to be in good shape. I came across a pair of Trek MTB's in different states of disrepair recently to cut my teeth on in bike repair. One is a Trek 800, similar to that 820, but with no Antelope badging. Must be a year or two older. It seems a very heavy mountain bike. Maybe just well built!

New here, so I can't post a pic yet. Anyway, I've been riding my '94 Giant Sedona ATX since I bought it new in Summer 1994. It was $577 tax and all for the bike, bottle cages, and bottles.

Fully rigid, Shimano STX components. Alivio hubs.

I put Michelin Country Rock tires on it years ago for 30-mile road rides. I recently replaced them with new ones. When the kids came along, I added a Blackburn rear rack for a child seat.

A few weeks ago, I replaced the rear hub bearings and the bottom bracket cartridge, so it's now ready for another 26 years. Everything else is all original.

I see little mention of Giant around here, but when it comes to early 90s bikes for neighborhood cruising, this seems no different than a Trek or Specialized of the same era. Am I missing something? I'm admittedly uneducated.

Finished my Trek 970 last week and got it dirty today. It didn't have the original wheels, so I used my my spare set (mid 90's Deore LX) and made it a 9sp. It's now ready to take on Korina's 4P Rockhopper.

My fiance's 970 usually stays clean

Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

I just landed an XXL 1990 930 as a project. It's all there and I may do a drop bar conversion on it.

Nice, yours looks like a 25in.

I've tried the drop bar on a 950 I had, but it wasn't for me. I was more comfortable on my bikes made for drop bars. However, I know some love their drop bar MTBs, good luck!

Over the past few years, I picked up 2 Rockhoppers, one from the late 80s and the other from the early 90s, for $50 each. I recently rebuilt them both and shipped them out. I sent the late 80s rockhopper to my nephew out in NJ. I'll be sending out the early 90s rockhopper to a friend in Dallas soon.

It looks huge, but it's actually a 22 inch. Largest size they made. I have a Cimarron with the bar setup you have and it is super comfortable, but I have never tried drop bars on an MTB and this is the opportunity!

Must be the camera angle or something as that head tube looks larger than mine, and my 970 is also a 22in.

I think that's an '87, looks a lot like mine, except the paint on yours is in way better shape. Somenthing about a clean, solid yellow bike that really stands out.

Yeah it could be an '87. The bike came to be with all original components and they check up against the specs in Mombat
Specialized Specs

I snagged the deore crank and derailleurs soon after I bought the bike and then rebuilt it with different parts. The chainstay u brake works well on a road bike but it is a bit of a PITA to adjust. I have a late 80s Stumpjumper Comp (an '88 I think) that I use as a commuter. I have it set up with drops but I want to convert it back to flat bars.

Recently did a drop bar conversion on a '93 970 with XT front/rear DRs. I used Tourney 3x7 brifters..completely compatible with both DRs. Super easy conversion. Put Schwalbe Big Ben (26x2.1) tires on it..fun ride! It's now my touring bike..very comfortable on the first tour with it.
