Yeah it could be an '87. The bike came to be with all original components and they check up against the specs in Mombat
I snagged the deore crank and derailleurs soon after I bought the bike and then rebuilt it with different parts. The chainstay u brake works well on a road bike but it is a bit of a PITA to adjust. I have a late 80s Stumpjumper Comp (an '88 I think) that I use as a commuter. I have it set up with drops but I want to convert it back to flat bars.

I picked up a different stumpjumper (a '92 I think) that I plan to converting to drops and so I'll turn the '88 back to flat bars. Flat bars give you good control for a commuter which is what I use the '88 stumpjumper for.
The early 90s stumpjumper is, I think, a little nicer bike. It has a prestige main triangle and it doesn't have a u brake. Also I'm going to do the conversion a little differently this time with an origin 8 bar and get the bars a little higher which is what you are supposed to do.

Just sold mine since I don't ride MTBs hardly anymore. And being 6'4" I did't like the tiny 26" wheels that much but the 24" was nice. However I am not sure what year it was.

Finished my Trek 970 last week and got it dirty today. It didn't have the original wheels, so I used my my spare set (mid 90's Deore LX) and made it a 9sp. It's now ready to take on Korina's 4P Rockhopper.

Previously mentioned but I couldn't post then. Here's my '94 Giant Sedona ATX that I bought new. It's mostly original with its Shimano STX group set that still performs flawlessly. Even so, I'm about to replace all cables and housings and put on Kool Stop brake pads. These all steel MTBs are still my favorite style.

RİTCHEY Ascent Comp 87-88
Not sure about the year, even Tom Ritchey himself, that kindly answered my questions via the Ritchey site and Instagram, wasn't able to tell the exact year, but he confirmed it was a Ritchey. Has an A149 serial number, so more likely USA handcrafted. The production sticker with the moustsched guy is long gone, but I think it read "handcrafted by Ritchey mountain bikes"not sure.. Havent seen ANY Ascent in that color, and I have looked around.. I got this bike used in 1998 in New Mexico, was a present... Rode it daily for commuting and some touring in NM and then Portland OR,til i moved back to Spain in 2010. GREAT RIDE.. quite light for a steel frame and good for anything.. Pure cross... It has Been sitting in my father in law garage since..I took those photos on my last visit, two years ago.. It was riding just fine after all these years.. I tried to sell it a few times locally, before moving and then on that trip, but no one wanted it.! . Can you dig that? Front wheel seems to be non original, back wheel is Ritchey Vantage.. Most components original, original Crank was replaced. The hĺndle bars are Ritchey and quite interesting, in two colors, I wish i was able to take more pictures, or have the Bike to restore and ride...

WV is not flat..
A couple that have moved through the shop recently. A Mongoose Alta that is going to be a college beater for a friends son and a 1995 Gary Fisher Aquila. It is currently for sale, but I won't be upset if it doesn't sell/ It rides so nice and fits me perfectly.

Grabbed this after watching it since earlier this summer. It's really just Deore parts and a blown out Manitou. Of course, what I was buying was this Mountain Goat frame. It's the real thing. Special mention to Jeff Archer at First Flight Bikes in N.C. and his MOMBAT collection for turning me onto Mountain Goats. I was saddened to hear of his passing and really miss his beautiful collection and feel lucky to have made the trip twice to see it. The bike has since been cleaned and only about 90% done to the way I'm going to leave it with a rigid fork.

It's since been through a drop bar conversion and made into a touring bike(haven't taken pics yet..I'll post those on the MTB drop bar thread). The frame geometry/angles are the same as a Surly LHT, or Trek 750, or 520, though tubing is/maybe different.

It did come with street tires, but I used them elsewhere and tossed the trail tires on there until new road tires (Schwalbe Big Ben) came in. The Big Ben's are fun tires..fast rolling and cushy. Did one tour with them and they performed well. The bike & tires handle 4 panniers with about 35 lbs of weight very well.
