My question is... As kind as he is, why should he even interact with you when you doubt him anyway?

pgtnice.. (NICE name by the way), I suggest that you get a feel about certain areas of the forum before you come in, guns a-blazing. This is a very helpful and knowledgeable community and in regards to this issue, I request you leave this thread please.

Does anyone know what year they started putting the "handmade in Waterford, Wi" decal on the left chainstay?

PG, you just don't seem to understand how to communicate here on C&V. We've been coaching you with great civility on a better way to express yourself. We've politely asked for you to provide some pictures for confirmation. We've encouraged you to offer an apology to scooper. Yet you continue with the same attitude. Pretty soon Siu Blue Wind or another trusted moderator, will politely ban you from further participation. At which point your opportunity to contribute, will cease. Please adopt a better and more civil approach. Thank you.

And they have dredged up another zombie thread to further confuse the issue and continue the diatribe.

Well, according to the archived Road Test/ Bike review 1991 thread, recently posted by SpeedofLite, the Schwinn Paramount PDG Series 3 was built in Japan, at least initially.

This looks like the thread for my questions. I'm looking at the bike below.

Is this the P15, the "Deluxe"? What is the geometry of the 23 inch size in millimeters (TT & ST at least). It appears the brake levers were changed during the 80's restoration but what are the proper original ones? It has braze ons for the bottle cage. I assume that was added in the restoration? Thanks.

https://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/d...404872499.html

1972 18 speed road bike;restored in the 1980s by original Chicago Schwinn builders.
All decals same as original
All CAMPAGNOLO
SIDE PULL BRAKES
FINGER SHIFTERS INSTALLED NEW
BY GARNER BIKES NORTHBROOK, IL
ORIGINAL OWNER,TOOL KIT,&MANUAL
GREAT RIDE OR COLLECTOR BIKE

@Lazyass

All Paramount"s are "Deluxe" IMO.

P-15 indicates 15 speed with original correct triple crankset and LeTour RD, brakes would have been Weinmann centerpull or Campy sidepull. Looks like this one would have been Weinmann if the TT guides are original. All the shift cable guides were added. Hopefully those bar cons are the Schwinn approved version.

Anything could have been ordered new from the factory or changed at the dealer when these were new, nothing was off the table.

Price on this is optimistic IMO.

From the "Asian Serial Number Guide" sticky pgtnice's serial number breaks down to Panasonic. My PDG 2 has a similar s/n. Wouldn't this indicate they were indeed made in Japan?

Just for the heck of it, I read the first (ancient) page. Came across Scooper's post. (I miss him. Good insight, solid poster.) And the Paramount I want. Forget those cherished '58-79 2nd gens. Here's "the ride":

The lugwork looks very similar to British machines of the same era.

Those are signature Emil Wastyn "keyhole" lugs, he was using them in the 1930's when he built the first Paramount's.

Here's my 47, possibly earlier.

Not sure if he was influenced by the Brits, could have been the other way around as he started in the US in 1910 after years in Belgium.

What Paramount is this?

I am ignorant about modern Schwinn Paramount models. I would like to know what model is this, where the frame was made, and approximate vintage. Thanks!

It's a standard Paramount made in Waterford Wi some time between 1987-1990 if you post the serial number we can tell you the month and year. It is on the BB and with a number like 585

Little late to the game: mine was a 1986 model, Electric Blue, 60 cm, Columbus SL/SP (smaller frames were SLX/SPX), with Shimano dropouts. Chromed right chainstay. It was silver soldered, as I recall. The clear coat sucked, and chipped easily. Came with a Stronglight needle bearing headset. The Schwinn shop owner’s son, because they were Schwinn dealers, got to have his name hand-painted on the left chainstay. One of the most beautiful frames I’ve ever seen in terms of quality assembly and finish.
