Upgrading from 105 5600 to Ultegra

Upgrading from 105 5600 to Ultegra
Hi all. Apologies if this has been answered but thought I’d get some of your opinions.
I current have a 105 5600 10 speed on my Orca and was wondering if it is possible to swap out the crank for a Ultegra 6700 10 speed? Would the 10 speed Shimanos generally be all interchangeable for the cranks?
In terms of a bigger picture I am looking at one day giving the bike a new group set for something new… Would it be better getting the 6800 Ultegra 11 speed or the newer R7000 105?

Yes, you can directly swap a 6700 crank for a 5600. Not much point unless you need a new crank. As for the new group, 7000 would be a better choice than 6800, IMO. They made significant improvements with the second generation 11 speed. Also, 7000 is current, will be much easier to find a new group than 6800.

Swapping out a 105 crankset for an Ultegra crankset is pretty pointless.

Unless the 105 crank is damaged or you want compact it’s not worth it. I changed to a 105 long cage for more cassette range recently. May be could have put a Wolf thing on the short cage Ultegra. Best thing is save and get a disk brake bike. Keep what you got for a spare bike.

As for putting an entire new 11 speed group on the bike, you just need to decide if weight savings of Ultegra over 105 is worth the additional cost to you. I run both groups and sometimes will mix them up. My main bike right now has a 105 drive side crank/spider with Ultegra 52/36 rings and a Ultegra left crank.
