I have several bikes and frames, and I want to store them in the garage in some sort of manageable way. Factors are effective use of space, accessibility, storage without too much strain on various components. Nevermind space for a car. There is already a motorcycle and assorted and sundry other stuff. (Yeah, there's a yard sale in my future. Maybe three.) But the bicycles...

How do some of you do it? Thanks!

My two bikes hang in a corner from hooks in the ceiling. (Hooks screwed into 2x4 secured to ceiling joists. Tandem leans against a wall in another corner. Spouse's e-assist rests on it's kickstand between a car and garage walkway. Too heavy for spouse to deal with if hanging from ceiling or on wall rack.

When I worked search and rescue we had a fleet of fat tire bikes that we hung from the rafters with ropes and tied the ropes off on hooks in studs along the walls. We simply picked the bike we needed and undid the rope and lowered it. Meanwhile, this left room on the floor for snowmobiles and atvs. Skis and snowshoes were in racks on the walls between the secured ropes. It all worked and the bikes weren't underfoot when we didn't need them. They could be a bugger to pull up and your DW might have a problem with that aspect, but you could always use pulleys which would make it a much easier effort. Good luck,

Hooks on walls, positioned so that a hanging bike's lower wheel is a few inches from the floor. You can get the hooks closer together if you alternate bikes -- hang one by the front wheel, then one by the rear wheel, etc.

I can get up to four of them on this wall.
Yes in my little town I get the stinkeye if I don't have a mask visible while on the bike.

Wall hooks and rope-and-pulley hangers overhead. I got five of those at a yard sale for twenty bucks and they were a big help.

I use two lengths of Unistrut secured to the joists, then using threaded bike hooks with washers & nuts as pictured I have sliding bike storage. I can slide the bikes sideways to get to the bike I need. I use spring nuts at the ends to keep the hooks from sliding off. They do make Unistrut rollers you can use but at about $20.00 each they're kinda pricy. You could also use one stick of Unistrut and hang the bikes vertically.

I have 2 hooks for bikes and I hang 2 from the seats on a rail. Rotated as the bikes are used.

I’ve tried many configurations in my garage, and in the end the best method was to simply lean them against the wall two deep down one side of the garage. That takes care of the 6 most used bikes for my wife and I.

They take up a very narrow swath of floor space and I start my 2’ deep shelves just above them. The bikes tuck neatly underneath the shelves.

It all depends on the particulars of the space and the bikes, though. In other situations, hanging by the wheels on the wall made more sense. But that gets unpleasant with bikes weighing north of 30lbs…. which many of our bikes are.

I'm a fan of the wall hooks that swivel. This way you can hang bikes by front (or rear) wheel and fold them so they're more "flat" against the wall.
I use this Topeak "swing-up" model that works really well, and is also good for carbon frames where you might not want to hang the bike from the top tube:

A lil cheesy but effective . gotta move the bike to do dips on the Treadmills " bar ends" but otherwise use of wasted space.
Yes I did consider whether the bike could be rode on it ! But too short and slow. Wish I still had my rollers with the fan "resistance "turbines . Used to store a bike standing up on that.

To much of a newb to post pics, but all mine are on Harbor Freight screw-in hooks in the basement, but after seeing Alleytom's solution, I think this is the way to go!!
