They are psychoactive, causing hallucinations, and will make you sick to the stomach, often with vomiting and diarrhea. In rare cases they can kill you. It is reported by a very reliable source that you can leach out the toxins if you boil them long enough, but that the insipid flavor is not worth the trouble.

Had a tire and tube failure inflating tires on a new to me vintage bike. Put on some 25mm instead of 23mm and did a quick, flat 18 mile loop in farm country. Nice ride all around.

Nice Fall day in the mid 60's here in the Rcokies took a short ride to town the long way on the SS Nishiki to get a few more Aspen pics before there gone.

Mixed paved and dirt today. Beautiful weather! The home stretch features a long gentle downhill to a stoplight with a long cycle. I need to post a pic as Ive written about this before. Invariably the light will turn green when I’m pretty far out so I will pull a looong sprint to catch the light. Today I just missed it and while I’m sitting there waiting my front tire blows. Close enough to home that I walked it the rest of the way. If I had made the green, the tire would have blown either at home or on the steeper descent on the way there so I’m gonna say glad I can’t sprint as fast as I used to.

I went back to Black Creek Park to ride the 5 Mile Creek Greenway/Cain Creek Rails to Trails again, and a new section that opened recently which adds 1.2 miles to the trail system. It now dead ends at an old RR trestle that crosses Carson Rd. Future plans will extend it several miles past the closed trestle. You do get to ride across a small old trestle that has been made rideable.

I started a thread the other day about the bad local traffic. That thread turned into a total and complete downer. It made me realize those were NOT the important parts of riding.
As a consequence, over the last few days, I have purposefully been ignoring the traffic and bad drivers and focusing on why I ride: I love riding my bike.

How wide do they measure on those rims? I got some 32mm Corsas and they measure at 28 on Mavic Module E rims. Still a great tire, but I was hoping they'd be wider.

The tires have been on the Holland all summer long so maybe over time they stretch out a bit.

Have a handful of Corsa 30’s mounted on various rims. All of them measure up right at 30mm, or at least within a tenth one way or another.
Didn’t know they even came in 32mm, but they are an awfully nice ride.

I had a 40 minute ride around my area earlier today and lots of Halloween decorations have popped up.
I've seen a dozen or so of these 12 foot skeletons last year and this year that Home Depot was selling.
I've read they are quickly snapped up and then listed for sell for much more than the original $300 price.
The first time I saw one in Home Depot 2 years ago it struck me how intimidating a real 12 foot individual would be.
Notice this display has smaller skeletons bowing down to the giant one.
In looking these up I saw articles about real giant skeletons that have been unearthed in the past.
Of course there's Mulder and Scully on the X Files show with , "The truth is out there," and all that.

I'm guessing a vintage touring bike with the cantilevers.
I'm not seeing any decals.
I do note the smooth tread fat Gravel King tires.
I have a pair of those in 700x42 on my Rivendell Sam Hillbourne bike.

Rode up to Sunrise yesterday.

Had a ride north along the Rideau Canal and parts adjacent to it this morning - cue temperature plunge! I realized that the leaves will be at their best in the Gatineau Hills north of the city, so I'll take the Schwinn with the triple up into the park tomorrow. I had the Wasp out today with its Sturmey Archer four-speed hub gear, and the pawls were ticking quieter than usual at about 5 degrees Celsius (about 40F I think?) - the light oil must thicken a bit. Maybe I'll switch to synthetic

Our Parliament just a ways off. I was headed for Wellington Street, which is car-free right now and gives good access to various separated lanes back through the city or north to the Ottawa River path and the bridges to Quebec, from which you can link up with other really nice MUPs and of course Gatineau Park.

Not as many Parliamentary Precinct cops around as usual - nobody in the office on Thanksgiving weekend I guess. Snapped one for funsies. I didn't realize until later that you can see the top of the Peace Tower (the Centre Block of Parliament) in the window! Its called the Peace Tower because it is also a memorial to our war dead. There's a room in Centre Block where a very large and ornate book has its pages turned each day, and on the pages are the names of Canada's war dead from the War of 1812, the Boer War, the World Wars, Korea, UN missions, and I'm not sure about Afghanistan but likely those men and women too.

There were a lot of fall tourists on Parliament Hill, so I abandoned my photo attempts and beat a hasty retreat back through the city and stopped off at the farmers market to grab some leeks and potatoes for soup. Cue turkey pie! Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.
