I don't like electric bicycles
Now that I think about it, I don't really like electric bicycles that much.
The problem is the weight to power ratio. The motors have to weigh so much that you have to put in a high power system which is more weight. They also have more friction losses so you can't cruise as far. And the extra weight means you need beefier brakes.
Perhaps they make sense for cargo bicycling, that is the only real use case I can think of.

I don't like mosquitos. Or pasta with alfredo sauce.

I don't like people that don't like electric bikes. They're too opinionated and don't consider all the reasons someone may want an electric bike. They've probably never even tried one which makes it even worse. And that makes me arguing their point even harder.
Perhaps their argument makes sense to others who don't think things through very thoroughly but that's the only case I can think of.

My favorite line from Indiana Jones: "NAZIs. I hate those guys."
My wife has an e-bike that in essence enabled her to rehab to the point where she is now a better cyclist on a standard bicycle than she was prior to her various orthopedic issues, so although I don't personally have one, I really like that.
With that in mind, (she and) I do find the extra weight and drag cumbersome, and she has a reasonably light pedal-assist class 1 road e-bike. This is one of the reasons she really wanted to start riding a standard bike again. So I guess there is a small grain of truth in the OPs assessment, but the stated conclusion doesn't follow, thankfully.
I really don't like pickup trucks with gun-racks and confederate flags piloted by homicidal maniacs, either.

The lightest e-bikes use Mahle rear hub motors and may only 7 pounds more and can add more power than an average rider can produce. At age 69, I still do mountainous 50 mile rides, three times per week. I ride 10-12% grades on most rides. I'm not ready for an e-bike yet.

I don't like them either. Especially when people ride them along the bike paths oblivious to people around them. Every time one passes, I hope the motor dies and they have to pedal or push it home.

I don't like Corvettes. One of the ugliest cars to me that I've ever seen. I do like the early GTO's and the later models of Pontiac Tempest just before GTO's were introduced!
I guess the point of this thread is to say what we don't like.

Obviously, they do seem to make sense to quite a lot of folks because electric bikes are experiencing rapidly rising sales!
I was very impressed with the overall build quality and engineering of the pair of 2022 Pedego electric bikes that my neighbors recently purchased.
Those specific PEDEGO models are nothing to laugh at. They are very well built and much lighter than you'd expect. If I had to guess, my neighbors' Pedego bikes are the cream of the crop in the e-bike world at this moment. I have no idea about that and I certainly was not going to ask what they paid for them.
These two PEDEGO electric bikes allow my neighbors to ride "bicycles" farther distances & at much faster average speeds than would be possible if they were supremely athletic and extremely physically fit. He is 68 years old with with both knees having been totally replaced in the last ten years and she is 68 years old and in great physical shape as she is a great tennis player, a former marathon runner, avid swimmer and she finished fourth in her age group several years ago (60 to 64 age category) of an IRONMAN 70.3 event. He on the other hand is probably twenty pounds overweight but in better than average shape by todays American standards. He had been about thirty five pounds overweight for much of his thirties to early sixties. He played major college football, as a scholarship player, not a walk on, and he played in a few nationally televised games on ABC tv in 1973, 1974, & 1975, as a starting defensive back, punter, and sometimes returning kicks.
Anyway, they do seem to enjoy the hell out of their recent PEDEGO acquisitions. Those frikking things are fast. No way to keep up with them, even on my triathlon bike. Their range on the battery charge is pretty damn good. My neighbors are having fun with them. She could ride a Century on a Varsity but he probably might struggle doing fifteen miles on a seventeen pound 21 speed bicycle. It is all about having fun. They are having a blast with them. It also allows him to ride his PEDEGO along side accompanying her sometimes on her triathlon training rides when she is pedalling her competition triathlon bicycle. They also like to boast that there are no emissions from the e-bikes, like from their previous motorcycle riding days of long ago. I once had a street motorcycle many decades ago, so I can attest that they are indeed fun, but too many close calls and being literally bumped by cars with inattentive drivers at traffic lights, I quit motorcycle riding in the 1970's and have never looked back. That does not mean that I am the CZAR and that because I decided it was best for me to get off of the motorcycle, that everybody else must think and do as I do. Nobody cares too much what little old dumbass me thinks. You simply have to recognize that not everyone thinks the same or has the same likes & dislikes. Generally, these wide expanse of differences , do make for a more interesting world. Let those who want to have fun with e-bikes, enjoy their electric bikes. You do you. Have fun with providing your own pedal power propulsion on whatever type of bicycle that you wanna ride.
It isn't like that you are gonna be appointed POPE of the bicycle world, or perhaps the head of the ministry of transportation, or the National Highway Transportation Administration chief, who can rule on what is permissable and what is outlawable.
E-bikes are fun for a large segment of the population because the rider doesn't need any level of real physical fitness to ride an e-bike. They can go anyhow and almost anywhere without getting tired, winded, and drenched in sweat. Just like the tv remote control was a godsend for the inactive obese couch potato, the e-bike will allow some of these same folks to ride, assuming that they do not too far exceed the weight capacity limits of said electric bicycles.
