Visibility was/is (it's night time now) a little over a 1/4 mile, and I could see the haze between me and the building across the street. This is Seattle proper, not the east side (of Lake Washington) where they've been at 350-400. I'd be happy if all those rainy days had a "1" instead of a "0" in front of the decimal point to just clear the yuck out of the air and off of everything. I am readying my older Paramount for rain and winter duties and hope to be ready by the end of the weekend.

Folks, there has been chatter that Neal's lucky streak of bringing good weather to a tour is about to end.

To that, I say you've gotta look at the big picture.

Our Seattleite brethren are reporting horrific air quality numbers due to forest fires in the east. Tomorrow (Friday) we've got a lot of rain scheduled, which should help clear the air. Friday is our travel day, Neal and Doc fly in, Andy is taking the train so he can work via wifi, John, Andrew and myself are driving up, and Matt's local and will commute from North Bend before riding north on Monday with most of us. We don't ride until the weekend. Saturday and Sunday have just a few sprinkles, Monday on looks like heavier showers.

So, Neal is bringing heavy rain Friday to give us good air quality. I'm sure he planned it this way when he saw the smoke.

Aha, I should have guessed, he's a rainmaker, after all. 👍 Slightly pre-verted, but still a rainmaker. 😁😉

Edited in: Hey, whoall remembers a Deep Purple song called Stormbringer? I remember that one pretty good, from seeing a DP tribute band, called Stormbringer, several years back. 😎

Sunday route and start time please, I hope to join.

If Sat's route passes thru Issaquah or Renton I might be able to jump in for a while. Or the after-beers.

edit: PM worked

Yeah ... I'm not a big Gene Kelly fan.

Now, Burt Lancaster ... he could just swim his way across the county, whether the neighbors liked it or not.

I'll be following virtually since I'm in no shape for riding. Good and bad stuff have conspired to keep me off the bike all summer.

As of this moment the AQI has dropped to 81 in the Lesser Portland area (aka Vancouver, WA) and Seattle's appears to be improving. Rain all day Friday should wash the rest of it out. Best wishes to all of you.

We are now right around 200 (per Purple Air / WAQA / EPA setup), down from just over 300 a few hours ago. Smoke is gettin' outta here!

Just FYI, the 520 bridge and trail will be closed this weekend. Your route crossing at 520/Montlake may be closed as well. Should be an easy detour if necessary.

Good intel, thanks! I was going to maybe take that back as a shortcut. Sounds like I'll need to do an out and back on the Burke

That little spur of the Lake Wa trail from Hamlin/E Park toward Lake Wa Blvd has been closed for months. Been a real pain.

From the Montlake Bridge riding south, I've just been staying on the Montlake Blvd sidewalk past all that 520 construction, then turning left on Lake Wa Blvd.

Going south, I get off on the newish and beautiful Arboretum Trail (via 26th ave E and the footbridge), because it's uphill and I don't want to hold up traffic. But going north, I stay on Lake Wa Blvd the whole way, 'cause it's sooo fast and fun.

I think we're ok for the Saturday ride, can you take a look at this and confirm?

It's this red-colored, dedicated trail section that's been closed for a long time. So, follow my black line instead, the east sidewalk of Montlake Blvd that then bisects Lake Wa Blvd.

Which direction are you traveling here, north or south?

The set pieces are pretty telegraphed but I see each one as a work of art placed in a movie. Kind of like Astaire.
