Didn't get started till 11:30 yesterday waiting for it to warm up but got in 68 miles and 3k climbing. Started out a bit chilly, got plenty warm, and chilly again as I was getting near home. Nice to be able to ride in November.

I was out of town in the GA mountains last week. Missed bike riding. I did do a good amount of walks in the woods. Nothing epic, maybe 20 miles for the whole week. Saw many interesting things. A bear up close, fall leaves, roaring rivers and waterfalls.

I got in a favorite 61 mile loop between the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River in Southern Maryland last weekend, a bit over 3k feet in climbing but all rolling hills with a few short steepies. Had to deal with several road closures due to last week's rain - short writeup here.
After the weekend, the warm spell ended but this weekend temps will be back in the 60s - should be able to get a nice long ride in again.

We've had 3 great weekends of clear skies and decent temps with today probably being the warmest. Pics are scattered between the weekly ride report and last week in the geezer forum - from today's 40 miles of country roads

adding on Sunday, another 40 with some guys from a neighboring group

Rode out to the coast from my house in Santa Paula . It was so nice, 72 f and light onshore breeze. Nice ride through the orchards for 10-12 miles and the rest on the coast. A typical Southern California fall day.

Tuesday I did my 27 mile Davis Is. ride.
Saturday was one of my bottom three worst bikes rides. The short version...got a flat that I had to repair about half way. Then about 5 miles from home I had a street person try to spit on me while I was passing him. While somewhat surprised by that I lost control of bike and went down hard. It was like my bike got pulled out from under me. I was stunned for a moment, but got myself up. The street person ran away. The rear wheel got totally deformed. So I had to walk/carry my bike away to a more public place while I waited for a ride to pick me up. On the good side several people stopped and asked if I was okay. They seemed genuinely concerned. Restored my faith in humanity. The rear wheel is destroyed, also my bike glasses, reader glasses, and my helmet (which has some nice dents from the pavement...thank you helmet). Thankfully, my cell phone was okay. I got some cuts, but I'm mostly sore in my back and neck, which isn't a surprise since I was basically dropped 3 feet onto concrete. At first I thought the rear wheel was damaged by the fall, but now I feel the rear wheel gave way and that caused the crash. I think it was a combination of lower psi from the tube change, slightly slick roads and getting a little sideways at a low speed. I got in 40 hard earned miles. Still feel like a complete idiot though for letting the guy distract me.
I'm the kind of person who feels when thrown off the horse you should get right back on asap. Even though I was a little sore, I got out my gravel bike and went for a 40 mile ride on Sunday. I went back to the same spot I crashed. I'd rather face my fears than stew over it. Anyways, it was a perfectly normal ride with no issues.

I was able to get out Saturday morning. It was cool (it went down to 28 degrees F), but I dressed for it and stayed out for about three hours. It was a beautiful ride!

In October I had to cut back a bit on riding, from around 600 miles a month to around 400, due to persistent neck spasm. But I added more walking. And last week I tried a little jogging, for the first time in 30+ years. Just 50-100 yards at a time, doing jog/walk intervals during my usual 3-5 mile walks. Wasn't quite as awful as I'd expected.
This weekend was my annual ride-my-age ritual of self-abuse. I seldom ride farther than 30 miles in a single day due to neck spasms (old C1-C2 injury), but occasionally 50-65 miles is within reach, as long as I take break midway for stretching and massage. Same thing weekend -- long break after 30 miles before finishing that evening.
I'm not quite ready to give up the traditional bikes for a recumbent but it may be in my future.
About 1/4 into Saturday's ride-my-age ritual, which turned out to be just a bit over 101 km for this year. Beautiful autumn afternoon.

I got a new Pinarello Prince just over a week ago (I've posted the pic below on a few threads now - I both love it and am bad at taking pictures when out riding). It now has 200 miles on it after today's 63 mile ride in what, for North Texas, was cold and windy weather. Also had a decent amount of climbing today for TX (about 2700 feet). I'm at 1239km for the month - going to head out for a short recovery ride tomorrow.
And I love my new bike!
I do need to do another FTP test. I've been mixing in Peloton rides, and have seen drastic improvements over the last few months.

Thanksgiving week was kind of a bust for bike riding. I was back in the Ocala Nat. Forest and was mostly occupied with Thanksgiving prep. I did do a traditional walk in woods for Black Friday. Almost got stuck in some deep sand trying to find the trailhead. Saturday I had a very pleasant 41 mile ride in the forest. Perfect bike weather. Mid 60's with low wind.

Due to chronic neck, back and shoulder pain I cut way back on bike rides from 500-600 miles a month to around 350 miles in October and 280 in November. I did 400+ miles both months, so the rest was walking.
I realized I needed to get back to more full body fitness stuff, so I started walking more. That turned out to be more difficult than I'd expected. After 3-5 miles my hips and lower back ached. A full body bone scan last year showed some mild scoliosis and cervical vertebrae damage from various injuries, but most of the rest of the skeleton was fine. So, no joint problems to worry about. I figured I just needed to keep working at it. I added lots of massage (percussion massagers are terrific), soaks in a hot bath with Epsom salts.
None of my apps properly tally separate activities by month, week, etc. but best I can guesstimate from Strava and Wahoo Fitness:
83 miles walking in November, maybe 5 miles of which included intermittent jogging. I realized it was going to take awhile to jog any distance. So I started by jogging about 50-100 yards at a time, walking the same distance, repeating.
December 1, today, I tried my first shot at jogging any real distance since I was in my 20s, (I just turned 63). Over my usual 5-6 mile route near home I mostly jogged on grass, walked on pavement. That worked out to jogging about 1/2 mile, walking another 1/2 mile, jogging another mile without resting, walking another 1/2 mile, jogging another 0.6 miles, then finishing with walking home.
Gotta admit, 19 years ago after my neck and back were broken when my compact car was t-boned by a full size SUV at highway speed, I never thought I'd jog again. Heck, I never thought I'd ride a bike again, but I resumed that in 2015. Until 2014 I still needed a cane to walk any distance - more than 100 yards or so.
For now I'm sticking with casual bike rides of maybe 20-50 miles, depending on how the neck, back and shoulder feel. But I'm not doing any "training," no intervals or FTP stuff. I'm gonna give my body plenty of time to recover. I'll think about "training" next spring. I think I overdid it during the summer with too many interval and tempo or zone 4 sessions, without adequate rest. And I neglected my home physical therapy stuff my PT doc showed me in 2019. So I'm resuming that as well.
