velogames superclassico 2022 is here!

velogames superclassico 2022 is here! 37 races! omg! the honorary badger trophy and final rainbow jersey awarded to the participant that wins the overall superclasico points competition: Semroc

thankxalot, semroc. anyway, i'll suck it up till october or november. a big thank you to our last host-@slcbob-whom may have lost what few marbles were remaining.
poor slob. can't say i'll be any more coherent or timely or less drooling but i'll try. there should really be a federal tax credit for running this...

first race-strade bianche! the strade bianche entry deadline is at 11:30 cet (5:30am eastern standard time/2:30am pacific standard time in the usa) on saturday, march 5th.
just get your picks in like now.

https://www.velogames.com/superclasico/2022/

league name: bike forums
league code: 539488111

paris-nice is right after this (separate game) so be ready...

just planning on celebrating the winners and jeering the losers of every race-esp the big ones. too many quick turnarounds throughout the year to crown an overall champion.
everyone will miss a race or three. **edit** or not. got snookered into a deep game of ante up. sigh.

i was so not prepared for this...maybe someone wants to take on a gt or two...?

*edit* will keep/update the ongoing victor's list for all 37 races here in this first post as a handy dandy reference point/bragging rights/eternal reminder of failure and woe...

I like the super classico because all the riders values are locked in as of now - interesting to see the values towards the end of the season and under-over valued prospects.

I'd throw my hat in for a GT, doesn't matter which - I could do the Giro?

Won't give away anything before the white roads except to say it's Taco time!

We'll I slept in this Saturday

That's ok I'll catch the strade bianca replay, but maybe I'll check cycling news quick to see how it's going...

... Ah. I see. Interestingly I had the same thing happen to me about a week ago with a wild cross wind down burst. Put me in the ditch before I knew it. Real shame about Tiej Benoot he was going well, of course I signed Mohorics fate when I thought he'd do well here. Is that Simon Clarke, whom I swapped out at the last moment, off the front?
Oh no that's Asgreen - I liked the previous quickstep jersey of blue personally.

well that was a fun, first race. lots of getting used to new kits on old riders. had forgotten about many of the transfers. one race down, thirty-six to go...

the paris-nice and tirreno-adriatico stage races are back to back (3/6-3/7) in the stage race championship game. actually feel pretty good about the p-n squad
and that's likely the kiss of death.

I just got back to DC from a trip to the Keys. I'm devastated I missed the start of Superclasico.

I will do some soul searching and either jump in for Milan-Torino after having spotted the field a round, or maybe just follow the action from time to time. I think I need a forcing function to clue in, though, because I have no idea who is doing well or not on the bike these days. Also lamenting the end of steephill.tv. Sigh. I threw in a team for the Race to the Sun almost blind. That may be my best strategy yet.

I know you take the mantle of hosting much more seriously than I do, ooga-booga . This one is a marathon, not a sprint. Well, it's more of an ultra-marathon of sprints. I truly hope things stay vaguely normal in normal heights. But I'm not banking on it.

As a geospatial purist, it bothers me that the SCMA Four Corners tour uses San Ysidro rather than Imperial Beach. Even moreso now that I'm aware of this little SW gem. I'm now even a little sad that I ended my IBA 50CC in Mission Beach, but after reflection, would do it again to celebrate with a carne asada burrito out of that hole in the wall just north of the Beachcomber.

There will be time for a few laps of the country before Superclasico 2022 is over.

By the way, the Key West faux buoy is a sham and it gets southernmoster on the other side of the Navy fence.

Hawaii has only been part of the US for 63 years. Maybe it's a very old sign?

it’s about to get real busy for 6 weeks starting with milan-san remo on the 19th (altho we have milan-torino on the 16th). mix in tons of one-days, classics and three, weeklong tours. check velogames.com daily for roster building/changing/results.

Milano Torino

Seems very suited to the sprinters but with a couple of stingers this will be a reduced bunch yeah?
A sharp bend with 400m to the line but wide roads.

Not all riders listed as of yet, but names like Sagan, Cosnefoy, Aranburu, Van Avermaet, Cavendish are there. Also Kaden Groves who was there in Tirreno Adriatico.

Quickstep with Mørkøv, Cavágna should be interesting if Cav can't climb.

Alberto Betiol is back in it for EF.

Only 5 takers in the little league?

There had been only 4 but I've appeared for comic relief.

You all seem to have chosen at least somewhat wisely with a good splattering of podium picks. Everywhere except back by the broom wagon. It could have been worse; I flirted with choosing Ben Swift for a moment. I didn't quite hold on to the goose egg, but it was a good effort and you will be further away at the end of the day than at the beginning. Still, it is a LONG LONG ... LONG way to Lombardy and Tours.

Let the gnashing of teeth commence! semroc pipping me at the line with bouhanni!!! I had Nacer in place till the last second where I remembered he left Tirreno Adriatico and I thought he must have the bronchitis!

I'd like to apologize to anyone who thought this would be a reduced bunch ... because I have yet to correctly analyze an elevation profile and its difficulty. That Irishman from EF (Ben Healy) made it briefly exciting until the TGV took front position, glad to see Remí back.

OK. I just looked at the Fantasy Spring Classics game. I had forgotten how much I hate that limited transfers thing. It be fresh and raw again soon.

yah...hate hate but still entered a team. not tracking that game on here. if someone else wants to do it, rock on. if i don't totally forget about that game,
just planning on minimal transfers...like just replacing non-entries/injured/etc. not enuff time in the day to maximize a particular roster with transfer limits looming.

Superclasico and spring classics are in. Let the gnashing of teeth and feats of irony commence.

If I do worse this year, it will be balanced by being able to blame it on being out having too much fun to put any work into it. If I do better, that'll be damning for race analytical capability yet thoroughly acceptable.

Well played.

I'm not convinced the Spring Classics subset deserves their own thread but I don't want to distract from Superclasico performance admiration here.

Mein Gott! You have really laid out the red carpet in Post 1 here and fueled imitation in an emerging VG norm here. The imitation is the most sincere form of flattery and, beside being great right now, the legacy for future trash talking is praiseworthy.

I may have to open a new thread to record any time I pass someone after spotting the fields a race here and a tour in the cumulative tour tally. It would be totally insincere and underserving self-flattery, but better than nothing.

Any thoughts to including the running GC podium in addition to the stage wins? Nothing is too hard if I don't have to do it.
