Chris King base plate (crown race): which way is up?
I just ghetto-installed my Chris Bling headset, having thrown caution to the wind. (It worked out fine.)
Now I need to put the crown race on an Enve all-road fork. This is actually making me more nervous.
The crown race/base plate looks like this:
I'm assuming that the first photo corresponds to the top (pointing away from the ground and front wheel) and the second is the bottom (which should point toward the fork crown, wheel and ground). But the funny thing is the taper perfectly matches the bevel on the bottom of the headset, so I am worried I might be getting this wrong.

First photo is right, but you’ll know pretty quick if you do it wrong.

I was really proud of myself for getting the crown race right. Then after I put the cups in and was about to put in the fork, I thought, wait, why is the "King" upside-down? This was on the front section of an S&S coupled tandem, detatched from the rest of the bike. I had, of course, put the cups in upside-down. I called my LBS mechanic and he said: "Oh, yeah, don't beat yourself up. I've done that a few times."
