Garmin Edge 530 Not Pairing With Wahoo TickrFit HRM

I picked up a Wahoo TickrFit HRM the other day. I paired it with the Wahoo app on my phone, no problem. I paired it up with Zwift on my computer, again no problem. I then tried to pair it with my Garmin 530, its sees the sensor, but it doesn't complete the pairing process. Garmin SW has been updated and my Wahoo cadence and wheel sensors both work fine. I've tried power cycling the garmin and wahoo multiple times, no luck. I've checked with Garmin and Wahoo support and forums, for any information on my situation can be found. Has anybody had the same issue and was able to resolve the problem? Does anybody have any suggestions?

What happens when you try? Does it give you an error or anything? Hopefully someone in here knows how to check the logs.

the garmin may be connecting with Bluetooth and you used all the connections. try unsparing it from your phone.

The Garmin "sees" the Tickr and displays its name, it just won't pair. The only other thing I tried so far is shutting off all other Bluetooth devices nearby to see if that was a problem. No luck.

I did shut off nearby bluetooth devices during the pairing process. No change.

Ok I just googled Wahoo TickrFit HRM and it looks like this supports ANT+ as well as Bluetooth. I think your 530 does as well, I've never had that one though so I'm not certain.

When I try to pair my Garmin to a sensor that supports both radio types, it shows me the sensor twice. Do you get one HRM or two after you search but before you (try to) finalize the connection?

What does it say that tells you it didn't pair?

I remember long ago one guy on the Garmin forums went through several pages of replies of help trying to pair his HR strap to his Edge of some early model. Finally someone ask if he had the strap on. He later came back and admitted he didn't and when he put it on, he had a HR reading.

I only get one HRM showing up. I don't know a way to determine if it's trying to connect through ANT+ or BT. You are correct that both the sensor and Garmin can use either protocol. Perhaps the Garmin is trying (and failing) to connect via ANT+ instead of BT.

On the Garmin it just sits there with its little spinning wheel. No error messages. Just keeps trying until it goes to sleep. I'm wearing the HRM during the pairing process.

So some how I managed to get it to work! I think it just needed a long time to pair. I was fooling around with data fields and was playing around with it for about 10 minutes, when all all of a sudden it asked me to create a data field for HR. And lo and behold when added a HR field, it was filled with HR.

So thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

You do have all the updates on your Edge 530 don't you?

Also, turn the power completely off and then restart it. Don't just push the power button and put it to sleep. Hold the power button for a few seconds and then you'll have the option to turn it off. That might help ensure a previous update is fully functioning.

Durn, should have read the previous two posts!
