Oh cool! What kind of restaurant? Maybe I should stop by. Indeed Baltimore Ave is awful, but the Anacostia Tributary Trail System is really wonderful. Much quieter than say Mt. Vernon or CC trails.

Took theFauntleroy ferry over to Vashon Island for the first time. 
There's not a lot of this open, flat road on the island. It's mostly rural, tree-lined and incredibly hilly. I liked this road name though. Reminded me of home.
This was the goal for the day, the Point Robinson lighthouse.
Post ferry ride back home, I stopped near Alki Beach.

Today’s route involved a short segment of gravel so I got Chuck off the rack. Chuck was my gravel grinder until I got the VO so he’s been languishing and gathering some non gravel road dust. He answered the bell when called though and it was a nice ride in muggy, but cooler weather.

The freebie Specialized Globe Sport is really zippy! Despite the light morning rain, I took it for a test drive from Bethesda to Georgetown on the CCT. 12.4 mph going 15.5 miles. It even rides nicely on the C&O Canal Towpath! One day I will bike from DC to Pittsburgh on this thing :-)

Before it turns into a total frozen mud pit took a short ride to the outlaw dirt track just outside Fairplay and did several laps. Took the single speed path racer themed drop bar single speed Nishiki Custom sport which actually seems right at home on a dirt track. Kinda going back to the origins of drop bar bikes that were raced on dirt tracks in the early 1900,s.

ON THE (T)RAIL OF THE TRAMWAY
There used to be a tramway on our isle, until 1956. Unfortunately the tracks were broken up, but here and there you can still see the remains of the once very lively connections. Today I followed part of the old track from the harbour to an inland town. Care to join me?
This is a map of the old network.
Here we start at the old head station in the harbour. From there you could take the ferry to other destinations.
And when you follow the track inland along the harbour canal you end up in my home town. Here you can see the remains of the track at the old station shed where locs were maintained. It's gone now...
What the old station looked like.
And we continue our journey on the Cascarsi bike. Here we leave my home town and in the far back you can already discern the water tower of the next town we're headed for. * whooooop chu chu *

A still intact old gravel road, crossing the former tracks. You can almost hear the rattling of metal or wooden wheels on the gravel.
A beautiful old farm, from around the 1750's.

A nice and steady 16 miler with my wife, brother and his girlfriend along the Santa Fe Dam.
During the ride I noticed I couldn't shift the lowest gears in the rear. Luckily it was a stretched out cable and not a faulty shifter.

This morning’s ride was the local hill climb route (homage to fauxorica, perhaps). I was on my Raleigh Gran Course with its Campy triple crankset and 9-speed cassette, which was just about enough gears to navigate the couple of 12% climbs up to Blue Hill Observatory just south of Boston in Milton, MA.

Did my little ~5 mile "test ride / break in" loop with my Ross Paragon after rebuilding and swapping the rear derailleur (Cyclone GT replacing a Superbe), rebuilding & putting a larger freewheel on it (Sachs 6 speed 13-28), and replacing the chain.
There are a few very minor things to address, but otherwise it is a rather nice riding bike.

Rolling the dice this time of year on the local MUP; this is currently the worst tree failure at the north end of Lake Washington:
I'd been doing night rides on this trail up until the rains came along a few days ago. Ixnay on that from now on - even a helmet ain't gonna help if one gets clobbered on the head by a piece of falling timber!
