Soldering wiring guides on steel frame?
After 11 years and 50,000kms I'm going to strip and brush-paint (thanks randyjawa!) my steel hybrid frame. I use dynamo lighting with the wires fastened with zip ties. Thought to make guides from thin sheet metal and tin soldering them to the bare frame. Never seen it done before, what do you think of it?

On a steel frame I think I’d consider internal routing before soldering tubing onto the frame.

Since the wire guides/clips will see very little tension on them and should one come off the results is not likely to be a immediate safety situation I sat YES, simple plumbing solder should be fine. Consider looking at the K&S model metal tubing offers before making your own clips. They offer cool brass tubes in small diameters and thin walls that are easily manipulated, filed, sanded. Andy

No problem. I have silver soldered/brazed many Shifter and Cable Bosses to my steel frames. I use a little Harbor Freight touch and plumbers silver solder with regular copper pipe flux. It's no biggy but you should do a few test runs on similar tubing. I also make sure the frame and bosses are clean and sanded to expose raw metal.

I used glue on hydraulic cable guides on the frame and rear rack. I cleaned the paint with alcohol stuck them on then to make sure they stayed on I used a little Shoe Goo.

Having seen this I am planning on doing something similar on some of my bikes
As I also use dynamos but dislike having wires wrapped around the frame I sometimes run the wires through brake housing and then clip that to the frame.
IGH and front-to-rear dynamo housings
