BB axle length?
In my corner of the universe, a “Guvnot” pretty much requires me to build on Japanese frames, though there are two Raleighs in my frame inventory. The two I’m obcessed with currently are Japanese frames, and came into my possession sans bottom brackets. My LBS has a full inventory of Shimano BBs to fit about anything. I know both shells are English threaded, so that’s a given. What I can’t calculate with any confidence is the axle length. One is getting an old single speed S-A coaster hub, and the other will use a wheelset I was given with a Nexus 3-speed. Both frames I coldset to fit these hubs.
I can figure out how to arrive at the centerline to cog distance at the rear, but then lose all confidence in using that to find the chainline-from-center measurement up front so I can get the right BB length. Am I overthinking this? Thanks for any tutelage for this aged newbie.

The crank determines the BB length, not the other way around.
