Meniscus irritation from twisting out of pedals?
I have a pair of Assioma pedals which take considerable torque to get out of. Over the last couple of months my right knee/ meniscus has been sore. It is the foot I take out at stops. The left knee/meniscus is sore to a lesser degree. Not a huge problem but sleeping on my side bothers it the most. Curious if anyone else has experienced similar.

Joint cartilage does not have a nerve supply, so it ain't your meniscus you're feeling.

Not sure if Assioma pedal release can do this but on Shimano SPD-R pedals, you can unclip by not only rotating your foot outward, but also inward. I like to keep my release tension fairly high and I have accidentally tweaked my knee when releasing from the pedals using an outward twist. Not sure why but when I do the inward release technique, this knee stress doesn’t seem to be an issue.

Is it possible for you to switch feet for a while to see if the problem follows, or is your unclip foot too engrained?
I don't know how much of an off-season you have, but I feel like fit niggles are more likely to crop up this time of year, so it might be worth some troubleshooting before deciding that something in particular is to blame.

I'm surprised at how loose I can set the retention without problems. Maybe you can get a little less friction?

If you are having meniscus problems, you should consider a repair before it gets worse. I had a torn right knee meniscus in my 30s that got so bad I could only walk about 100' before the pain made me stop and sit. Got it fixed, and have not had a problem since (30 years later). If you have pain, you likely have a tear. Tears do not heal themselves. The docs go in and cut out the torn part.

If these are NEW to you pedals, maybe the torque is causing the problem with your knee and you should decrease the release tension.
If you have been using these pedals for more than the past few months, you may need to reconsider your position.
