Trek Speed Concept 9.9 Damage?
We have on ongoing debate about some damage on the drive-side head tube where the fork hits the steer tube of a Trek Speed Concept 9.9 (2017). First, is it common? Second, it’s it merely cosmetic, or is it something more concerning?
I have a photo, but since I am new to the forum, it won’t let me post it.

So put the photo somewhere else and just write the url to link to it in the plain text of your message. Then delete the https:// and put a space before and after any . or dot.
imgur.com works well for many.
After ten posts noob life gets better. But you have a 5 post limit in one day or 24 hours... not sure which. So use your posts sparingly till after 10.

Yes, it's common. No idea whether it's cosmetic or structural w/o seeing it. Figure out a way to post photos.

Photo Attempt
imgbox com backslash llb7lfc9
removed period, added text for backslash and added a space. Hopefully that works.
thanks.

https://imgbox.com/llb7lfc9 Are you certain that's the URL. For me it says image does not exist.
However I did use a forward slash since a backslash isn't valid in a URL.

Proper working Link. imgbox - fast, simple image host . I didn't do the full investigation but I believe that style of Trek steering setup has an internal stop to prevent that type of damage and the stop occasionally fails. May be covered under warranty but not sure about that. I can't say from the photo if there is serious damage but probably not and just a big bummer that you'll have to live with. Do a search for the Trek owners manual which may explain how it works with drawings.

There is no internal stop on those, the frame is the stop. I've seen it on pretty much every newer SC I've ever worked on. I've never seen anyone want to do a warranty claim.

Thanks all, another follow up.
Interesting that the frame would serve as the stop. Does no one warranty it because it’s not an issue (other than cosmetic) and does not affect the structural integrity of the frame? Could it reach the point of causing a structural issue?
Its also my understanding that Trek no longer uses 600 series carbon. Was that a cost saving move, or was it related to quality, or something else?

Far as I know Trek uses 500 and 800 series carbon now. I don't work for them any longer so I don't know about 600 and/or 700. I'm sure the info is on their site somewhere.

Stick on bumpers would help prevent more damage. This is just a quick find. Lots of sizes and types of material available at Home Depot, Target, Lowes, etc. etc. Scotch 60-Pack Round Cabinet Bumpers in the Cabinet Bumpers department at Lowes.com
