Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’ve thought about bringing a peanut butter and honey sandwich, but havnt figured out a good storage method yet. zip lock bag?

Ive noticed to that it seems really hard for me to keep my heart rate up even when I am working hard. If I am cranking on a straight away my leg muscles usually tire out before I am out of breath. Not sure if this makes any sense.
Just do it. You'll figure out what works for you. When I started riding metrics, I loved to stop a little more than half-way through for a can of Coke - a great pick-me-up (I didn't/don't drink soda otherwise). Oh, but pace yourself. No, no - easier than that. If you're used to 1-2 hour, moderately hard rides, go really easy. If you've got HR, stick to Zone 2. Early on, you'll probably be disgusted with how little effort that is, but the fatigue will start creepin' on you, adding up slowly, then piling on faster towards the end.

Those are good. I used to cut them in half, wrap a paper towel around each and then put them in a ziplock (the small snack ones).

Super windy for the ride today. Legs were a little fatigued from yesterday, but the wind direction was perfect for me to try to take sole possession of a KOM that I share. A minivan had other ideas.

Oh - language.

I like aluminum foil better. I've had too many sandwiches shake apart inside ziplocs in trunk bags or handlebar bags. Ziploc in a jersey pocket might be OK as long as the jersey's tight enough to keep the sandwich intact but not so tight you destroy the sandwich on the way in or out of the pocket

Yes. Plenty of times. It’s a small hamlet, blink and you miss it. I was not aware of the riot history.

Why not place it where it happened?

A former club mate (who moved to DC area) is named Ron Hill. We used to joke that the jersey said “I Ron Hill” and was personalized for him.

The past few years I have done the 100 miler. Not sure about the whole virtual tour. They should have asked for my endorsement before making me their mascot.

You may have already signed a consent form if that's from a previous iteration of the event.

I think this is from last year or the year before. I don’t mind them using my pic tbh.

What LoP wrote. The waiver likely included a consent clause allowing them to use your photo.

Many years ago my image ended up on the front flap of ride brochure. It was sort of semi-transparent. I got the brochure and didn’t even notice. Someone finally clued me in. May have been the City-to-Shore. It was so long ago I cannot remember. I should have saved one.

I still have a copy of a story that ran in a county paper in Iowa. Our cross country group had split up for a few days. Some of us got invited to stay in a senior center in tiny Oxford Junction so we could have ac in the 90+ degree heat. Word got around and a writer for the paper came by, interviewed us and took a photo. She later mailed copies to Bowling Green, OH, where we had a rest day. I’ll try to dig it out and scan it.

Our tour leader offered to give them the daily camping budget for each person there, which was $5/day. The head of the center refused, but we left it for the place anyway. Slipped the spare keys through the mail slot the next morning and took off for Davenport.
