Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You're right about management being the key to the success of this stuff. Having worked at stores which were well managed to ones with almost no management at all I can see the difference in everything. The car business has the reputation of being shysters in sales and service but it doesn't have to be that way. I worked at a family run store where if there was any indication of screwing customers you were gone, immediately. I worked at another where shafting people was not only tolerated, but rewarded. And I worked at one that was like the wild west and everyone did whatever they wanted and nothing really mattered.
I keep going back to the Porsche/BMW/Volvo/Jaguar/Land Rover dealer in Fort Worth because I've never felt like they were out to get me. All of the dealings, from purchases to service, have been very transparent. I've never felt screwed, and their service prices have typically been less than the Dallas area dealers. The Dallas Porsche/Mercedes dealer fits into your second category, in my opinion. I've never had a good experience trying to buy a car at that dealer.

Coworker of a few years is leaving and boss is stressing about it - might make my review with her this afternoon even more interesting.

I also went to Saddleback once. It was a national event when they had 500cc, 250cc, and 125cc all on the same day. I think it was the last race there before the whole place was turned into a housing development. Same thing happened to Carlsbad.

Just remembered I went to an outdoor race in Las Vegas but I don't remember if it was called a national. I just remember Bob Hannah dragging his handlebar in the turns.
The elimination of the 125 class signaled the death of 2 stroke bikes (and in some ways a slow death to motocross for the masses)

Recall one year Ron Lechien (?) had a factory liquid cooled 125 Yamaha - might have been the first liquid cooled motocross bike we saw ... and can't be positive - but it might have been a twin cylinder

Not long after this - liquid cooled RM125's began to appear ... Mark Barnett rode one - he was so much faster during qualifying at a Mid Ohio GP the officials thought they had a timing malfunction (they ran qualifying laps at the international GP races)

good times

Ha - can't blame you.

I am mightily fed up because my pay and title now severely lag what my boss is assigning me (and it's getting worse by the week). We can definitely get by without my income, but I'd rather have it (especially with AG trying to get established at her new job and the economy as it is). Because quitting is final, my plan is to tell my boss at my mid-year perf review (which is likely today) that I need a serious title and pay bump. If it doesn't come, then the number of effs given will dwindle towards the negatives, but I am severely unlikely to quit rather than try to force them to sever me. And if they do give me the raise (though I doubt it) that resets what the severance would be, and my salary history. If they don't... that tells me I have no future to worry about.

I did apply to a USAA job today, single-click style. Pays more, less responsibility, still remote.

That house in FC from the weekend is also motivation in the sense of showing what the marginal income from me could buy us. But we'll see.

Did the Quick Reply control images (other than the one for adding a picture) disappear for anyone else?

Edit: Appears to be only Safari. Will see if I can figure it out. They were there very recently.

Edit 2: Restarting Safari fixed it. #itjustworks #exceptwhenitdoesnt

Not sure how USAA treats its employees, but I can for sure say they treat their customers like gold. Gold, Jerry! GOLD!

We are members because my dad was in the service BITD.

It's not quite Mayhem but I did sign up for our club's Spring Classic, and since they have a 150 mile option, I chose that one. It's this coming Saturday.

I may live to regret that decision. Most of my friends are only doing 100.

Yes, my previous long-term GF had them and wow.

I also care less after leaving the bank - once my 16-year streak ends, if it does, leaving a place in a year or two will not seem as much of a loss.

I am 21 years into current job. I hope to keep it going, but the healthcare system is so effing dysfunctional I am considering exit strategies.

Sad.

Yes. Very. I can't say this about everyone, but the vast majority of physicians I know who are 50+ feel the same way I do and are considering an exit strategy too.
