Shimano 600 AX Hub Dust Covers

So I have an old set of Shimano 600 AX hubs with the plastic hub dust cover thingies. They have cracks and damage. Can I substitute newer style rubber ones? Will they fit?

I suspect that these are more about aero then sealing. Sure you could try a modern dust seal, perhaps take the hubs to a good shop and test fit from their misc take offs box. I've seen some use common O rings, often a few stacked along the axle to provide some contact with the cone and inner sealing thing (hub shell dust cap usually). IIRC the cones have a sealing design anyway, if so then these dust covers are redundant. Andy

No sealing other than these, nothing really wrong with mine but I was wondering if anyone had a 3D printed design with a better seal, there is about 0.5mm clearance on the outside. Not found anything yet - might be my first 3D printing project.

Have a lovely photo but first post so can't post it!
