I assume it has enough reflective area to be "legal"? Looked at the vests in both the LBS and a construction supply store and they seemed too bulky. Saw this on Amazon and I'm thinking it would "fit the bill". Let me know what you know. First 200k in a 10 days.

I suggest you contact the RBA and get his/her opinion.

Given your supposed location, I suppose the RBA is Spencer Klaassen. If you haven't already got a way to contact him, you can get his email address off the RUSA website, Search, Officials, Regional Brevet Administrators.

I have one of those and by my measurements it just about exactly meets the minimum reflective area requirements for front and back posted on the RUSA website.

You could try Dill Pickle Gear. She makes a sash which uses SOLAS which is reflective even when wet. I had her make me a handlebar bag last year. Great quality and easy to deal with.

that's a nice sash. I replaced the reflective stripes on my PBP vest with Solas, but it's a little on the warm side

because there's no fabric to flap annoyingly and the low bulk leaves room in a small trunk bag for other required supplies.

The front droops riding when the belt is set at pants-waist height. Worn elsewhere below my navel it drifts upward producing slack. With the belt at my anatomical waist it fits well.

In that short configuration, on each side I measure 18" of vertical strip plus 5" of belt. I get about the same in back measuring along the diagonals plus an extra 2" total horizontally because there's no buckle.

With a .75" reflective strip that's 34.5 square inches in front and 36 in back, plenty for RUSA which highly recommends "at least 30 square inches of rear-facing reflectivity and 27 square inches of forward-facing and shoulder reflectivity".

One thing to keep in mind is that ACP (and other European organizers?) require reflective gear that meets the EN1150 standard. Dunno how strict they are about it, but if your vest doesn’t say EN1150…

Looks nice, but I need one that lacks any buckles on the back (I ride a recumbent for randonees).

I've had one like this for years; use it for running nights, mornings. It fits high up on your chest - like a chest harness, on a bike I don't think it would have anyway near the reflective value of a vest. But once on, you don't know it's on.

I have been using one of those for a number of years. Actually on my second set, the first set the buckle broke in sub zero weather after a half dozen years or so. I really like it. I do not use cycle specific shirts or jackets, and since I commute every day, it easily goes over any shirt I am wearing that day. I have also tried the t shirts with reflective stripes made for construction workers but they were just not comfortable (hot) While these suspenders can get hot, you can loosen them up on the hot days such that they do not flap in the wind but allow enough ventilation to work.

Ordered the "suspender" reflector. It arrived timely and yesterday I completed my first Brevet. It worked great. I sure wasn't thinking about it on the 40 mile home stretch against a 20mph wind.

For Brevets conducted in Europe reflective vests must comply with ΕΝ 1150 or ΕΝ 471. I don't think reflective belts such as the one mention in the post comply.
