Picked up an Olympia Sport a while back. House brand of Rein Ruitenbeek's shop. Rein never divulged the name of the maker(s) of his bikes, but the ones I'd seen before were very nice, so this was a no-brainer.
As bought:
I rebuilt it in the same fashion as my favorite touring bikes, so as to be able to compare the frames. I still need to do a longer ride, but the first impressions were favorable.

Thanks! The Brooks that came with it needs some reshaping, so I replaced it with another one I had available.

Once again my Motobecane Grand Touring 1980s
I enjoy the 36/34 low gear. It is close enough to 1/1 (18/17) that it performs fine on steep grades

If your going to repack bearings and the like anyway and since it's black, (not a difficult color to match), why not do a complete job. If you touch it up now it will stop the rust at the very least.

I'm pretty new here at the forum. I bought an old Biancha MTB. Can't seem to upload the pic yet because i don't have many posts. Posting this anyway:
There an old 3x7 with ovals on, Shimano Light Action derailleur.
I bought it to get some experience in bike mechanics, i'm a total noob.
If someone could recommend me any documentation on how to index the gears please let me know!

Old touring bikes are following me home. This time it was a cosmetically challenged 1985 Raleigh Kodiak that appears to here very few miles on it.
It is still sporting the original Raleigh branded 27 x 1 3/8 tires.
Too bad about the condition because after using 1/2 bottle of Tri-flow on the moving parts, I took it for a spin to see what I was working with and really like it.
My joyride was cut short by the rear tire blowing a sidewall after 3.5 miles. Who would have thought that 35 year old tires weren’t safe?
I am not sure what the next step for this one will be. Do I clean and service it and ignore the rust or should I do a major cosmetic overhaul too?

So I bought this bike. I don't know if it is an Bianchi or not. It has a sticker but is there somewhere I could verify this? It was sold as an old Bianchi MTB from the 80s.
I had to buy a new chain, new pedals and tubes. I started to index the old gears and I can ride it now. It still needs some work I guess.
I'm planning for a long bikepacking trip with this towards Scandinavia. Maybe i change the steer, but for now i first need to make some KM's on it.
Any advice on how I could make this a nicer bike are welcome

First get rid of that double sprung saddle, at least get a Brooks Flyer. New shifters and cables, that should do it.

Yeah I was already looking for a more different saddle. A bit more solid like a racebike probably.
Because lack of knowledge, I'm not sure about what shifters would be a good fit. Does it mean I need to replace the derailleur as well?

I'd duck tape up that cracked shifter if it shifts, otherwise get a similar shifter off ebay

What's wrong with leaving it as is? Those shifters will last forever and the seat of course is a personal preference but looks fine on this bike. I would ride it a few weeks as is and see how you feel about it.

Quick post-ride pic of my 20 speed 1980 Centurion Pro Tour, with some modern touches: 700c wheels, original SR cranks with 46/34t rings, 13/29t Campy cassette, VO fenders, Berthoud saddle, 32mm gp5000s, etc. At some point, I'd like to find one of these in the next size up (24.5").

Finished my Trek 720 build today. Not a completely original set-up, but I think the newer parts mix well with the old and it came together beautifully! Rides quite well on 700c Panaracer Gravel King slicks... though getting them on the Mavic champion rims was ridiculously hard!
