Bridgestone Grandtech

Hello,

My grandpa gave me a folding bike he had hanging in his garage for years. He bought it with the intent of riding it, but the Sachs Heuer fork monted odometer shows just 88.5 miles on the bike (it was manufactured in 1986 as far as I can tell).

Does anyone know anything about these bikes? I found a sales brochure on Sheldon Allen's site, but that's about the extent of information that a google search had to offer.

I'm considering selling the bike - does anyone know how much they are worth these days?

That is a beautiful bike. It looks like one of the classic Japanese-made pass hunter bikes.

Well, it's a bit too small for me. I rode it around a bit, but, well, it rides like a folding bike. I have no need for a folding bike, so it just collects dust in my garage. I'd rather it go to better home I guess.

Besides, this is one of two that he bought. The second one is still hanging in his garage.

I did end up listing the bike on eBay. Since this isn't the for sale forum, I don't want to post the link. You can either search for it on eBay or PM me and I'll give you the link.

However, I'd still like to know more about the bike, as I can still get my hands on the other one in his garage.

I would e-mail Grant at Rivendell. He was designing bikes for Bridgestone around then.

Thanks for the tip on emailing Grant.

He didn't have too much more information on the bike. They sold much better in Japan than they did here. They retailed for around $450 in the U.S. in 1986, so I can imagine that it was an expensive bike back then.

Apparently they had two models:

Grandtech 24G

Grandtech 27H

I'm not sure, but it looks like the top picture has 24" wheels? The page I found this on is all in Japanese, so I have no idea what it says under the pictures (https://noda20.hp.infoseek.co.jp/bicycle/GRAND.html).

The bike I have is still on eBay if anyone is interested.

I came across your post from 07. Did you sell the Bridgestone Grandtech? If you didn't, I'm interested. Thanks

Grant was just in the US market, product manager, sales promo writer.
then the Japanese Corporation withdrew from the US market,
and Grant needed to make his own company..

Bridgestone in Japan is still doing fine .. had the F1 tire monopoly thanks to FIA, rule writing.

OP, all i get is [?] instead of picture, so i have no idea about your stuff..

Hey guys, check out the post dates... this thread is over half a decade old! It was bumped by the guy looking to buy the bike, and the OP hasn't been on the forums since June of 2007. I think we just need to let this thread fade away.

I'll end my post with this pic from the late great Sheldon Brown's site....

Yea Grant P had Nothing To Do with that Bike ..

Japan has small dwellings, and so Mini Velos and Folding bikes sell well.

Interesting, I've never seen a Panasonic folder.

That Bridgestone Grandtech reminds me of the early Montague Bi-Fold frames that were also used by Schwinn.

I am still waiting for a grandtech to show up from the bike traders here. So far my brother did had a chance to get one but I was late to get it. Anyway, a cyclist I know has one and maybe will offer it to me once he changes bicycles which he always does.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd better add to this existing one. Waste not, want not, eh?

I just got me a Grandtech. And I must say I am impressed. The tech does indeed deserve the Grand moniker, IMO.

I knew of the bike, but had never seen one in real life, until one popped up in the local classifieds. It looked to be in excellent shape and the price was reasonable, so I disregarded the "we don't need another bike" noises and picked it up.

This is what I got for $500:
