What MTB brake cables to buy?
Building my first bike and going with TRP Spyke calipers and levers. I’ve had hyd brakes on my previous bikes or never had to install cables.
What cables to buy? Recommend me a set. Standard Shimano work fine?
Thanks in advance.

Those cables would work well, IF they are long enough. Check that spec before spending $. Some will say that compressionless casing is the best with a cable disc system and I believe the Shimano linked to isn't. But well routed and detailed cable casing install goes a long way regardless of the casing. Andy

I use SHimano or Jagwire cables with die-drawn stainless inners and lined outer housings. I stay away from the coated inners as I feel that there is little frictional advantage, they can be difficult to clamp securely (critical with brakes) and tend to shed the coating which can gum up the works.

Mechanical disc brakes benefit from compressionless brake (NOT shift) housing like Jagwire Pro but it isn't essential. The long housing runs, particularly for the rear brake, mean many pre-cut cable kits may not work. Be sure the kit specifies it's suitable for mechanical disc brakes or buy housing in a long coil and custom cut the lengths you need.
+1 to avoiding coated inner wires as they do indeed tend to slip even if the anchor bolt is very tight. If you do get them be sure to scrape off the coating at the anchor bolt.

my personal experience is that mechanical disc brakes, including the Spyres on my bike, feel like absolute doo-doo with conventional brake housing. compressionless housing like the Jagwire stuff mentioned earlier feels much, much better and I personally would not bother otherwise. YMMV of course, but that's been my experience.

Mack_turtle: I have no idea what the Spyres feel like with regular brake housing but I believe what you say. Mine were installed with Jagwire Pro housing as recommended by TRP and, done that way, they feel great.
