Campagnolo crank compatibility

Hi

I have a crank with self removing screws.

Could I use a different crank with the usual screws ?

See pics attached

And note the difference in the inside of the crank where it bolts on the bike

The size, really the depth is different.

Really appreciate your help

I don't see any self-removing bolts in either photo.
There is a washer in the bottom of one of the cranks. Make sure you remove before using a crank tool.

I always like to use Campagnolo cranks with Campagnolo bottom brackets.

But, if you remove the self-removers, you can use the cranks with normal crank bolts.

Thank you for the great responses!!

I have a campy BB and the cranks are Campagnolo.

The crank with the round hole is the one that uses self removing screw.
that one was on the bike.

The other crank, also campagnolo has the square hole that fits right on and uses a bolt to secure.

Thanks again

Really appreciate the help

If it were me, I would determine the model and year of each crankset and the required spindle length for each. Once I knew that information, I could move forward.

The spindle is the original Campy.

The self removing screws ..the cranks have round holes.

The bolt on has square holes.

Just want to see if they both could work ?

Bike came with self removing screws.

Thank you again.

Very much appreciated

Your crank with the self extractors is a C-Record. I don't know what you mean by round holes. The first crank in your photos looks like my "C-Record era" Chorus crank. That one should work with your bottom bracket. The only way to know is to try it. Just watch and make sure the chainring doesn't hit the chain stay and the chain line is acceptable.

The on the left looks like a 1st generation Chorus. The other is almost certainly a Croce D'Aune. Both can use either regular bolts or self-extracting ones. I'm assuming that the Croce is the one with the self-extractors, hence the steel washer in the bottom of the hole, which should be removed if you're switching to regular bolts.

If you like self-extracting crank bolts, Sugino makes new ones.

Alas, Campagnolo's self-extractors used left-hand thread on the extractor disc; Sugino and everyone else used right hand thread.

Didn't know that.

Not surprised.

Thanks again for all the great responses.

the round hole I am referring to is in the first ( top ) picture.

I do like the idea of self extracting screws, but I bought a few Campy cranks that are square holes( the usual ones) , so I do not think the self extracting screws will work on that.

That's ok. I just wanted to know if I could use EITHER crank with appropriate screws/ bolts

I ALSO have another thread about how and where to apply grease to the rear hub that the cassette goes on. It has a small hole for the bearings.

If someone could check my other thread and knows that would again....be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!

Thank you all !!!

Very much appreciated

Neither crank has a "round hole" where the bottom bracket spindle goes. The holes in the crankarms are identical. They have to be, as both cranks fit the same bottom bracket spindles, which are square pegs and don't go in round holes.

One of them, the Croce D'Aune on the right, has a round washer covering its square hole. This washer should be removed if you're using conventional crank bolts. If you're using self-extracting bolts, you need the washers.

Thank you ShannonM !!!!!

What a dope I am. I didn't even realize washers were in there.
I knew the back was square but thought the round hole was how it was made.

Just went down and pulled them out

Thank you again !!!!!
