Just realized this is a new monthly record for me. My prior top mileage month was September 2021 (230.2 miles). And I still have some days to go, but I also need to get the new bike back to the LBS for its one month tuneup. I have over 300 miles on it now. Some rain coming up, maybe I can time the tuneup with the bad weather.

Mark

Decided to try a new circuit this morning, it's pretty much the same distance but it's longer straight runs and more hills. My speedo has stopped working completely at the moment for some reason but MapMyRide tells me I did 28ks at just over 20kph average. It must have rained last night and I didn't hear it because the road was a bit wet this morning but otherwise it was a good ride this morning.
Total for the month is now 256ks, not sure if that will increase in the last few days of the month given the weather looks like it's about to turn.

I got kicked off the bike for the past 10 days by my back problems, again. Got back in the saddle today for my first ride since April 16th, and ... flatted the front tire after the 10 mile mark!! Life is Good! I can fix the flat, it was on my backup bike, anyway. FEELS GREAT to be back riding!!

28.4ks this morning. The new route is definitely making me work harder and puff harder, although not hard enough that I think I'm going to die.
Using more gears has shown me that the derailleur needs adjusting, it doesn't like sitting in the top half of the cassette.
I also broke my cheap back up headlight yesterday, was only a $5 light just in case the main one went flat while I was riding but still a pain in the butt.
The bike is 4 months old tomorrow and although I haven't got an exact figure for the total kilometers ridden it's about 1000ks +or- 10.
I'm thinking about getting some sort of smart watch to give me a better idea of...umm...something, to be honest I don't really know what they are capable of.

Respond to myself here
I fixed the $5 backup light by making one light out of two. Woohoo! (the effort I go to to save $5 )
It means I don't have spare back light if my main one goes flat during the ride but I can live with that especially given all the reflective tape, I'm like a glow worm anyway.

nice weather again this morning, a little more wind .
Last couple of days I’ve been riding and enjoying my converted MTB’s.
I just like 26” wheeled bikes . Easier for me to get on and off .

Finish up the month a little better than I expected with the stuff going on around the house. Missed 10 days of riding for various reasons. Hope to blow out my 100 mile goal for May .
I should have 400 for the year by now I need an extra 253 over my 100 monthly to meet my annual goal of 1200 miles .

Does not look like I'm going to make 100 this month. But this morning's ride along the beach was pretty glorious so I'll take some solace in that. It feels quite good to be back on two wheels again.

When I ride a lot I gain weight too. I think that the only real way to lose weight is to eat less.

I like mechanical watches, so I decided an Apple watch wasn't going to work. Didn't want to be going around with my regular watch on one wrist and the big Apple watch on the other. Instead I went with a Fitbit Charge 4. I sync it with my phone so for each ride it keeps track of mileage, heart rate, and elevation. I mainly like being able to keep track of heart rate so I have some idea of how hard I worked.

For my work, we have a program where I can save money on health insurance if I exercise. So the Fitbit also syncs with the app that we use for work and makes it easier to earn points. Saves me about $40/month.

Finished the month with 274.5km (170 miles approx). That's 274ks over my goal since I didn't have one to begin with
Haven't started May yet the weather wasn't favourable this morning, hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks for the info, I find it difficult to work out what each of these things do. I understand most of the terms they use in the sales blurbs but I don't really know what they'll all do for me. I haven't worn a watch for quite a few years because I used to break a lot of bands. They'd get caught on things when I was under the bonnet of the truck, or unloading etc, It wouldn't happen all the time but it happened enough that I certainly wouldn't pay over $100 for a watch. But things are a bit different now I'm not working as much and I can see myself able to wear something more often. I'm still not sure I want $500 hanging off my wrist but I'm definitely interested something and am open to either a band or a full size watch.
I was looking at the Charge 5 (among others) because apparently old farts like me could benefit from the ECG monitor. But I've been reading mixed reviews about how accurate the rest of the band is, especially with sleep tracking and heart rate accuracy. As the Charge 5 is the cheapest one I can find with ECG I was weighing up if I really did want that function which led me down the garden path looking at the Garmin Venu SQ, the Fitbit Versa 2, the Huawei GT2 and the Withing Steel HR Sport (just because it looked like a dress watch). I haven't decided on any of them yet but you've managed to add another one to the list

I have been limiting my calorie intake, always less then what I burn everyday. For the most part I am usually under my budget calories, the exercise calories I usually do not use. If that makes sense:
ie: budget 2512 food 1970 exercise-1647 net 323
Being T2 I am really trying to watch it body has a different opinion I guess. Well ride on.
