And todays; a homebrew recumbent parked outside the local MEC. And a ghetto-safe Bottecchia, parked outside a No-Frills in "the hood", filled with these characters (spoke with them for a bit). One is an Engineer from Somalia and the other a Doctor from Sudan. They love Canada!

ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!! No camera, but a story: Today, a voice behind me (on the MUP) says, "Like the shirt!" As the guy rides by, I noticed the interesting bends on all the rear geometry of his bike. A mile or so later, we are both at the crossing, and I ask him about the bike. Told me it was a "Sevens" made in Massachusetts. Seven Cycles - U.S. Built Custom Bicycles in Titanium and Titanium-Carbon Mix Looking at the site, it was a titanium gravel bike.

Same story here, no pics, at the top of Mt. Tabor (large hill, city park). Saw a very tricked out Crust Evasion gravel, upright, city bike, disc brakes, 1X, with the biggest cassette I think I have ever seen, probably 52. Hate to admit it was pretty cool, doubt there is anywhere you couldn't go on it.

Parked next to it was a very cool Moustache custom, not one of the mass produced ones. This one is built in Arizona by Richard May, I didn't look very close overall but it was very nice and you didn't have to look hard to see it. The owner got it from a women who decided it was too small for her. Then he starts talking about a "pink" custom frame at city bikes that he was thinking about buying. He had made an offer that was accepted but he was dragging his feet. I told him I had seen it when they got and it was a Bilenky and he should close the deal sooner rather than later, he's going there tomorrow.

I seldom/rarely find another of the same make/model to park next to, so I figured it worthy of a shot, even with an absolutely awful 2MB flip-phone "camera". Mine's the white '90, the other is an early '92.



Spotted an '87 Peugeot Tourmalet just moments earlier at the farmers market, but the owner was returning just as I was about to turn on the phone, and she appeared to be the type who would find it "weird".

(Note to self -- start carrying a real camera again, even a P&S.....)

I’ve been noticing this little Super Course MKII sitting by itself downtown lately. Nice Huret Jubilee upgrade on the rear. It’s a little dirty from use but I’m enjoying seeing it on my way into work each weekday.

Locked up beside this Araya at the grocery store the other day. I like the way this rider configured his bike. It is in a manner I'd do for myself. That crank dustcap is ready for retirement.

As I pulled into work today, I saw a sight I have not seen since the before times -- another bike on the bike rack. I imagine this must be how Robinson Crusoe felt upon spotting a footprint in the sand. Now I must locate this other cyclist and make him my domestic servant.

Life is simpler in the suburbs.

Honestly, I was nervous about it, but my desire to ride that bike outpaced my common sense. The lot has regular security patrols and very little foot traffic. And, of course, most people -- I suspect even casual bike thieves -- look at a 1974 Masi and register "old bike" and take no interest. Friday's Nishiki also helped me out in this respect -- with its cable lock, it was lower hanging fruit.

I get it and you're right about the Nishiki, I'd be tempted to get another crap bike to put there, just to be more sure and would have at least 2 locks so it can't be a quick one and done. Just leave them there so you don't have to carry them.

I was always lucky at the hospital, we had metal closets when I went there, then a pretty secure cage and I got a Dr's seriously secure locker soon after that.

Always told my Manager who had been a cyclist and was a really good guy that I wasn't coming there if I couldn't ride one of my good bikes and be sure it was safe while I was there.

We had 11 bikes stolen in 3 years before the cage that we know of, cut cables and whimpy locks mostly but still with regular patrols and plenty of other foot traffic, you would think it to be more safe, no way in H**L.

Hard to tell. That is a VA antique license plate, though. In the last 3-4 years around the
Richmond VA area, I've came across a COPO Camaro, a Yenko Chevelle, a Royal Bobcat Firebird, a 1958 Suburban 4 x 4, and other rarities.

Yep, you never know, some of the kits are really correct now that they are worth stupid money too. It could also be an original VIN transferred to an assembled vehicle title or any one of a number of kinky workarounds to jack up value.

The market for these sort of things has made it very sophisticated and impossible to tell in many cases even if you really do know what your looking at.

Some of them have finally become worth a 100K resto so have been brought back to life after decades of languishing.

And same goes for the imposters, as cool and or correct as they can be, there are plenty of fools and their $$$$$$.

Still cool to see anyway but us regular folks are never likely to get our hands on one no matter what anymore.

Waiting for the train today in Beaverton I noticed a small 78 Univega Gran Rally with silver fenders. Was it Velocivixen ? It spotted it immediately as I have been working on the exact bike lately. Mine's a bit larger tho.

I see this poor Trek at the Kroger most every Saturday I go there and tires always look flat. I seriously want to take my Ryobi inflator along some week and pump up the tires.






Interesting old Subaru I spotted zipping around some cul de sacs. At first glance I thought Yugo, then Starlet or maybe the ‘70s Foed Fiesta.

I couldn’t resist checking out this fabulous ’53 Skylark I saw at the Rural King a few weeks ago. Interesting chap cruising around in it.

Was out shopping for tall bikes and saw this thing offered at a yard sale. Never heard of this brand before. Had Araya VP series single walls and Exage 300 for cranks. Tange PG MTB Tubes. Could have bought it for maybe $15-20. But, what to do with it. Way too small.
