I've been watching that storm. I watch them all this time of year. It went due north, off the west coast of Mexico. It never occurred to me to consider where it would ultimately go. I just knew we were out of the woods.

No power all day today. Second week in a row. Might be the new normal. So I worked outside--kinda got carried away, and the next thing I know I'm really, really tired. But I got a lot done.

been checking for a rim brake frame for a while. Could not find a Ritchey and had my eye on Cinelli, but when Merckx popped up I had to have it.

I’ve been dealing with some issues lately that necessitated a CT scan. One of the incidental findings was an inguinal hernia. I knew that I sometimes have pain but I didn’t think much about it until my family doctor’s nurse called today to tell me that my guy wants to discuss surgery. Crap. We’re entering the perfect Fall riding season and I’m not in the mood for surgery.

The Schwinn Circuit frame I bought last week has arrived. And here I am at work, and I can't even open the box!!
This is just a frame, with no fork. It's a 23" frame, vs. the 22" I currently have, which is too small, even with extra-long seatpost and 130mm stem. The bars are just too low. Of course, I can't just swap in the fork from the 22" frame, since the head tube is probably an inch shorter. At the C&V ride, it was suggested to me that a framebuilder might be able to replace or augment the steerer tube, but I suspect that might turn out to be kinda pricey. So then there's the other frame on Ebay, which is a 24". The fork from that could be cut down and threaded to fit, probably a lot cheaper than trying to lengthen the one from the 22" frame.

what year / color Circuit ?
carbon or aluminum fork an option ?
the OEM steel fork from the 24" frame sounds like a great option if you plan to go the original route - especially if the steerer is a tad long which should allow the stem / bar to be raised a tad (more) if you desire
what drivetrain(s) are you considering ? spread triangle to 130mm to accommodate more contemp options ?
what size tires are you planning to run ? my guess is with the original steel fork 28mm tires should work ... ? ...
I have a Kinesis aluminium fork on a Peloton - the fork appears to be the limiting factor as far as tire size goes ... 28mm tire should fit on the rear with room to spare - but 28mm will be a very tight fit on the front if it will fit

I'm sure it's a threaded steer tube. We cut those off even with the top headset nut. You can get a tall quill stem to raise the bar.

I lived in the mountains north of here for 4+ years, our house was at 6000 feet. We had no a/c and never needed it. I think we only left a window open at night a few times. It's probably hotter there these days but I still dream about moving back there. I worry now about a fire going through there and the water comes from a well which could become a problem.
A friend of mine lived in the hills northeast of here and he spent thousands on dry wells and gave up finding water. Instead, he had water trucked in by a service. The service took care of the tank and kept it topped off.

I had doubts as did others - but it appeared to work
fun factoid - except for a short stint - I've had well water my entire life ...
I should probably be sick or dead from radon (high radon levels are apparently fairly common in houses with well water ?)

Picked up some different Ethiopian, single origin coffee beans from a local roaster the other day. Very light roast for espresso, but I think that they work really well. They remind me of a coffee shop in Richmond that my wife really liked, so I thought that I should let her try 'em out, even though she typically prefers the much darker, more tradition roasts. I was mildly surprised, but somewhat relieved, that she didn't really dig it - the beans are significantly more expensive than her daily driver.

I was actually thinking about this while riding the other day. Mrs. GeneJockey is currently fixated on Buffalo (again), so I was thinking, "How many months a year will I be able ride outside?", the answer to which is not "12", for either Buffalo or Pittsburgh, whereas that IS the answer for San Mateo.
Now all I have to do is buy a lottery ticket.
