It's a 58, has around 2000 miles on it, in very good shape with a set of Zipp 101 along with the original wheels that have been ridden on once. The only thing really wrong with it at this point aside from a good layer of dust, is it's not being ridden. A couple of years ago, and before the pandemic I had taken it to a local Specialized shop to inquire about a trade for another bike and was offered so little for it in comparison to what I paid that I balked, hung the bike up, and have touched it exactly one time since then. I have become too heavy to ride it (it's limit is rated at 250) and being honest with myself am likely never to be of an appropriate weight again.

Anyway, all that aside, I know that during the early months of the shutdown that bikes pricing went severely haywire. I often will 'sweep' CL just to see what is going on and if there is one thing certain, the price ranges you see there will leave a person far more confused than confident in appropriate pricing. I would like if any of you folks with a bit more finger on the current market would be willing to throw a ballpark price on such, accepting that it's a blind quote. The shop tried to offer me a $300 trade in several years ago, thus why I just hung it back up.

The thing about used markets is that other than high-end, it's pretty local. Most people aren't willing to put the trust in on shipping unless a bike is something really special (and your bike is a nice one, but not that), so it only matters what someone local to you is willing to pay.

Bring it to Ottawa and you can probably get $1100-$1500 CAD in the summer, assuming that there still isn't any new-bike inventory in that price range then.

I've lived in places where that $300 is probably way more realistic.

Try selling it for $1500 and, maybe, come down a bit.

Sell the wheels separately.

It's not surprising it wasn't worth much to a shop.

Yes it's rather funny how that works.

A couple of years ago we were looking for a bike for my wife. On CL we found quite a few things in the $1-200 range and picked one up that was nicely priced if not the exact fit needed. It was good for finding out whether it was going to get use and later on we purchased another used bike of a very similar type and build quality from a shop for $300. (It was an aluminum hybrid/mtb type). That was supposed to get us some free service and perk from that shop. Super conveniently located right on the paths we were riding at the time...and closed a month or two after.
Of no doubt road bikes lose value hard when you are on the owner/seller side. I honestly have no doubt that the same shop that offered the 300 would have more than tripled that once clean and on the floor. In my own assessment of the current situation the biggest thing hurting what resale could be is the swap to disk brakes. So many people may not even consider an "old fashioned" caliper brake bike.

Does the shop deal in used equipment? If not, I'm surprised they even offered you anything.

What are you wanting to do is the big question. If you want to sell it then sell it for what ever you are able to get for it when you get tired of the effort to find the schmuck that's going to pay top-dollar for it. In my experience those willing to pay top-dollar are few and far between.

Or if you just want it out of your hair then give it away. Or donate it and take any tax write off you can get if that's applicable for your country.

Or, leave it in the shed for your heirs to have to deal with and wonder if it's just trash or some super valuable bicycle they can get boodles of money for.

Honestly, it's rather disconcerting.

I am fully aware that half or retail isn't going to happen, particularly on a bike of this age. Well, I mean...maybe you ARE right considering the used car market.

I'm not trying to be right, I'm just telling you how I would price it. On Pro's Closet there's a 2013 listed for $2100. 2014 and 2015 versions are at $2300 and up. Personally, I'd be quite happy to get $1500 for it, but a lot depends on how long you're willing to fuss with it.

Craigslist has died around here with most people using Facebook marketplace. I sold my wife's 2014 Specialized Ruby Elite for $800 recently. during the height of the Pandemic bike craze I could have probably gotten $1200.
